Daiwa Zillion maintenance

Featured Replies

I would appreciate any information on basic maintenance for a Daiwa Zillion baitcaster.  How difficult is it to do basic stuff like applying oil to the spool?.  I looked at the schematic that came with the reel and it looks like a pain in the a** to even get to the spool.  This is my first baitcaster and I have no clue on how to remove the sideplates, I don't want to wreak my new reel.  Thanks for any advice you have for me.

To open the side plate, loosen the screw head at the magnetic adjustment dial and twist the side plate up or down (not sure), and this will expose the spool and spool brake blocks, you can now remove the spool.

If you have never opened a baitcaster before don't open the crank side plate, refer to your manual for basic maintenance for your reel.

Good Luck & Tight Lines!!!

Take a few practice runs on some other reel before you start messing with your Zillion. It's inexpensive to have someone do the maintainance for you if your not comfortable doing it yourself. I clean an oil everything I can on the EXTERIOR of my reels, but the guts get serviced by a pro (The Reel Mechanic).
