incorrect senko information

i was watching this bass pro shops next generation show this morning where teenagers host the hunting and fishing show. well this one kid was showing about texas rigging and he explained about a senko. first he said they were full of SAND!!! i thought that was the most   thing ive heard. he also said that they wiggle in a spiral motion on they way down....i think he should have done some research before airing this episode.

Or there is one more possibility, a simple slip of the tounge. Its much easier to blow smoke with a keyboard than to do a little public speaking with lights, cameras and microphones.

I don't know either way but they taste pretty good.

You do that too 8-)

Isn't that what editing is for or are these "kids" doing the editing?

Ya I saw this one to, thought that was interesting...very cool show, gives you basic angling tips... ;)

I prefer Berkley Gulp! ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D

Ive heard that about the sand somewhere too where people have melted down senkos and there was a sandy substance left after the salt and plastic were melted

What was left over is salt. The salt does not melt. :;)

I have also heard that Yamamoto Senkos are made with sand along with salt.....thus creating that 'special' texture that they have. And sand could possibly be the reason why they rip up so easily.

Why didn't the kid mention the itsy bitsy diamonds they put in there ;D?

lol! now i wanna go chew on one!!!!!

I think y'all just got the bait wrong.

It wasn't the senko he was talking about.

It was The Avid's Famous Baits "Sandy Slinko."

Made with pure SE Florida beach sand. It spirals to the bottom like a corkscrew.

The trick is to try to make and the fish stop laughing long enough to think it might be edible.

I'm still perfecting the technique.

but don't worry.  Y'all will be first in my thoughts.

I'll be giving away a free copy of "Rolands Martin book "baits I haven't endorsed yet" with every purchase.

Problem is the book keeps getting smaller.

I also have heard there is sand in the Yami...

I thought glass was made out of sand,, Hmm..looks clear...

must be it can be disolved ..

If I am not mistaken, it has Silica Sand in them. The same stuff that comes in your box of new shoes and beef jerky to absorb moisture...

A little science experiment for ya..The next time you use a Yamamoto Senko, leave one on your hook and place it back in the rod locker. Go back and look at it the next day. It will have beads of condensation all over it from the moisture in your boat..

I would not suggest eating silica sand!!

  • Super User

The beads of condensation are from the salt; salt in the bait + humidity in the atmosphere cause the salt to melt forming droplets of moisture. Leave it there long enough and corrosion will form on the hook. Elementary Science 101

Silica sand is the principal component of glass. I dont think senkos have glass nor sand in them but only salt. These senko type baits from Shimano do have glass powder in them which makes them sink faster.
