Zoom horny toads

Featured Replies

How do you rig the horny toads do you t-rig them or c-rig them or what and what types of hook do you use

I use the toad hooks made by zoom, they have a screw at the top and the hook goes in from the belly to the back... Then I skin hook it on the top to make it totally weedless..If you don't want to use those hooks you can use a 5/0 gammy ewg hook.... Hook it through the head and from the belly to the back once again skin hooking it on top to make it weedless.... The Zoom hooks make it a whole lot easier though..

x2.  I also put a bead in front of the hook, not sure if it keeps weeds off a little bit more but bead's are cheap enough to not worry about it.

No just a plastic or glass bead. Not a weight.

You can find them at walmart in a pack of 25 for .80 cents or so. For the plastic ones anyway.

I think using the zoom hooks or some other type of hook with the screw in the head makes it a little more weedless than using a regular EWG hook.

I agree, but some stores think those things are gold..... Most store have them 2 for $3 which is still high for hooks, but some places try to tell them 2 for $5???? I do not understand why and how they mark them up that high.. Most of those stores are the one's around the lake though where everything is high...I even use these hooks for my zoom big ole 10.5" worms.....

You can get hitchhikers and jig hooks and save money thats all the zoom hook is anyhow. You can get 25 60 degree jig hooks for a little over 4 bucks and grab some hitchhikers large ones 25 for a little  over 4 bucks you will have 25 frog hooks for 8 bucks

I started throwing the Horny Toad this year and the results have been FANTASTIC!   I rig it with the Horny toad hook (2 for $1.99 at Dicks) and throw it on 15lb fluorocarbon line.  Keep your rod at 11 o'clock and reel fast enough to keep it on top at the legs kicking.  They will hit the thing on a straight retrieve or varying the retrieve.  When the fish bites, reel down, give it a 1 second pause and then SET THE HOOK!  Some guys like to fish braid and I would if I had a rod only for Frog fishing.  Owner just came out with a 5/0 hook with the corkscrew on the end like the Zoom hook.  I bought a pack of 5 for $4.99 and they are even sharper than the zoom hook.  Throw that Horny Toad early and late and you will like the results!
