Spinnerbait w/trailer

Featured Replies

Was wondering if anyone on the board fishes this combination?I'm trying to fish a spinnerbait high in the water column with a slower retrieve.Any suggestions would be helpful. In other words slow rolling near the surface.

Use a lighter weighted spinner. For example a double willow,3 1/2 up front,4 1/2 on back with a quarter ounce spinner.

I'm using a 3/16 oz spinnerbait with a gold willow leaf and a silver colorado blade. If I slow it down to where I'm catching bass I get hung up in the dying hydrilla. Why don't people use a trailer with a spinnerbait?

I use a grub trailer all the time.

i guess cuz a spiner bait is more of a reaction bait, a trailer isnt nesescary, if a bass decides to take the spinner, hes gonna take is trailer or not! but somethin with alot of tail action would be good for a trailer, like a grub or horney toad or something.

If you will go to larger double willows the spinner bait will run higher in the water column.

A spinnerbait is a lure I really like to tweek for better results.First off I like a rubber, not silicone, skirt.I'm not knocking a silicone skirt they work too but rubber has more fluttering action.A single tail grub to serve as a trailer, enhances the fluttering action. It causes the skirt to pulsate.Rubber skirts will wear out faster than silicone.JMO CJ

What about using a fluke as a trailer?

I read in the new FLW mag that Woo Daves uses flukes as trailers for his large deep water spinnerbaits.  He's using 3/4-2oz spinnerbaits.  That is also what get's you deep or higher in the water column as well as the blade type....the weight of the bait.  It takes a heavier ounce weight to get double willow leaf blades deeper.

I've rigged my best spinnerbaits (War Eagle, Stanley, BooYah) with color matched flukes.  I have one or two with grubs for the extra action.  I'll post up a thread if it works.
