Well, fishing is done for me to least say.Is it a good idea to strip line and loosen drag for storing?

Or does it really matter?Thought this might make a good topic for us northern folks...

How can I fish if I stow away my gear.  I'm in Florida.  I'll be thinking of you northerners again this winter while I'm fishing.  I know it's gotta suck not being able to get out to fish.

I clean my rod. And strip line off reel, clean and lube, back off the spool tension and drag. I keep all my reels in reel covers. I usually keep a few rods going all year in case we have a warm winter day.

Loosening the drag is a good thing.  I loosen the drags on all my baitcasters when the day is done before the boat goes on the trailer.

It's gotta suck having to drag your boat around all winter to fish. I'll be thinking of you southerners as I drive up to my fish house, turn on the tv, put up my feet, and watch the NFL, NBA, ESPN, my favorite fishing shows, ect...while I'm fishing. ;D

Also, you may want to think about buying some women's hose (NOT for you!). Cut sections of it to fit around each reel. Keeps the dust off  :o

It is a good idea to service or have your reels serviced before you put them away. That way they are ready when you start fishing again. They need to be taken apart and the old grease removed from the gears and re-lubed and the bearings need to be removed, cleaned and oiled. Inspect your drag washers and be sure to back off the star drag.
