Durability of Mg reels

Now that they've been on the market for awhile, any thoughts on the long term durability of Mg reels?  The Core really interests me but I wonder how long it will last.

I have 4 50Mgs and I love them. A couple of them have been around for couple of seasons and they are still like new, don't ask me why, but they seem to get smoother over time. I don't have any dounts that they will hold up just fine. I have been looking at the Core also. VERY TEMPTING! Get thee behind me bait monkey!  ;)

Mg is what lawn boy mower decks were, still are? made of. Tough stuff. I wouldn't worry about the reliability of the material, the deciding factor of quality, will be the design and construction of the reel.

As long as you don 't fish in salt/brackish water with them ( certain Mg reels ) or not rinse them after use ( other Mg reels rated as saltwater "safe" ) they will last a loooooooooooooong time.

Even though I still don 't buy the saltwater "safe" claim on an Mg reel. :-?

I am with Raul on this. I would not use them in brackish/saltwater. I have seen one after a couple of years of use in brackish water. I  doubt if there was any cleaning done after using as the person did not know better. For the record it was not mine ;)

I agree with Raul about "so called" salt water safe mg reels.  It's a myth.  They coat the reels but the first scuff and the coating is gone leaving the mg to rust at will.

That being said, I have 5 Td-z's, a steez, and a Fuego. All are doing fine.  Even the Z that was on the bottom of my lake for 8 months before I miraculously found it during the drought is not only usable but actually works very well.  I hesitate to trust it though, fearing that the gears could give way under the stress of a big fish, but truth be told, except for some skanky looking cosmetic blemishes it works great.
