Spinning rod advice!

Featured Replies

Went to BPS to pick up a new spinning rod. For Symetre 1500 with 6-8lb test. Using it for weightless plastics, shaky head and light weighted tubes. I wanted to spend around $100.00 dollars. These are rods I looked at and all felt well. Thought I would seek some good advice from you guys before buying. Shimano compre, Shimano crucial, Allstar IM10 and St. Croix premier. Also what action would you get for the above applications. Thanks for the help before I buy!

7' St.Croix premeier if I had to choose for $100. Medium action, fast tip.

6'6" or 7' Medaction, Fast>>>>>>>>Fenwick HMX or Shimano Compre( for a few bucks more the Cucial is even better) rods, at this pricing ppoint , and from my experience are much better value rods than the Premier. When the Avids were are close out for 119, now that what have been a sweet deal for you 8-)

Whatever MFG. make it a 6'6" - 7' medlight/fast - medium/fast.....

You might also check the clearance spots.  My wife bought herself a St Croix Avid the other day on close out at BPS.  I think it was close to $100.

If you can find that I would definitley take Jig Man's direction here, great rod for that kind of money!

I would 2nd this, I had one and when i decided to step up to a better rod they offer a trade in and upgrade deal.

Plus it was a great rod for me in the first place.

The 1500 Symetre balances out nicely a 6-6 med-light power, fast or x-fast action.

I use 2500 size spinning reels for bass fishing whitch I pair with 7' med/fast or x-fast.

Oh,  go with Crucial or All Star. You could look into Fenwick, Daiwa, Falcon too. They make great rods in that price range.

Avids were on sale at Reed's for around $100. With a little patience I'm sure you can find one, too.

I would recommend an AS68MXF.

Well as always I get good honest advice. I now think I am going to spend a little extra and get an Avid. If I have to pay the price for a new model then so be it. Nothing is a bargain if its not what you really want and I think from your suggestions an Avid is worth the upgrade.
