Any Okuma reel fans?

Featured Replies

Recently another member asked some questions about okuma reels and this got me thinking. Okuma is by far my favorite spinning reel manufacturer but i never seem to see much said about them on this forum. Any other okuma reel fans? If there are some other Okuma guys out there what reels do you own?

I've been using an Inspira 30 for a year or so - very happy with it.  Definitely get your money's worth with Okuma.  Considering a 2nd one soon.  You hear an awful lot about Shimano on this forum, a very good reel but the better units are a little out of my price range.

I second the okuma spinning reels. They are a great buy. I have the

OKUMA INSPIRA ISX 30 with 20# spiderwire.

OKUMA EPIXOR EF 30 with 20# spiderwire.

OKUMA METALOID MD 20 with 15# spider on spool 1 & Berkley XL 8# on 2nd spool. I will be putting GAMMA 8# line on the other two second spools ef 30 & ISX 30 reels.

There is a member here: Fish Chris who is sponsered by Okuma. I have three Okuma spinning reels and I like them. I was using my 6'6" Ugly Stik Lite, a medium power, and my Okuma Hardstone spinning reel with 10# stren high impact line, baitfishing for schooly stripers off the coast. I hooked into a nice 20" and the reel's drag held up well. Just so you know, salt water stripers fight. A 5 lb. saltwater fish feels like a 10 lb freshwater fish.

I have two El Cheapo Okumas ($40), and for the price they have held up incredibly well.  I used one when I traveled down to Miami, caught several peanut dolphin on it with 15lb test Power Pro (they were zipping the drag out like crazy and it was super smooth), caught several snook that also buzzed the drag out like crazy, and a couple tarpon.  Talk about abuse!  But this $40 reel stood up like a champ, and it still works, although it's not very smooth anymore.  However, I would think if you spend a little more on an Okuma, it will be a real treat that should last a long time.  I've been looking at the V-System lately, and I've heard some good reports.

I don't think you can go wrong with Okuma.

I have had three cheap Okuma reels. One was the Stratus sold at Dick's and the other two were Avenger 50's that sell for $35. I liked them, they served me well.  I just like my Shimano's better so I sold them. Considering getting more for trolling. My buddy still uses one of my old Avengers and has caught several King Mackeral in the 20 pound range. One thing I like about them more than my Shimano's is the line capacity. Not really an issue for Bass fishing but can be in the saltwater environments that I fish alot.

I have 2 Okuma MD-30 Metaloid reels that I bought on Ebay and I think for the price they are hard to beat! IMO:o)
