Baitcaster for Wormin ?

Featured Replies

Could anyone reccomend a good baitcaster for casting worms, tubes or even senkos?  I've always just used a spinning reel, so is their a good baitcaster that can handle the light weight lures?

Up to the $250 range

Team Daiwa  103 HSDF Will handle 4" senkos, 1/8 jigs iwth pork and tubes with 1/8 oz bullets. Keep an eye on ebay for deals. I own quite a few...it all I own actually!

The Curado 100d is what I'm using for the smaller stuff and it's absolutely fantastic.  But the TD Sol and the Chronarch 50mg are great reels for the light stuff too but cost a little more than the Curado

The rod is going to be as important as the reel. I prefer a rod that "loads up" good during the cast. I can't afford to own all top end reels so I own three "work horses" that supplement my high end rigs. My "workhorse" reels are Pflueger Echelons. They run about 65 bucks and are really good reels for the money. I've found that when combined with a decent 6'8" MH rod that they can handle unweighted worms really well. Anyway, do your research and for 250 bucks you should be able to put together one heck of a combo. As for just a good high end reel, you can't go wrong with any of the ABU Revos.

Well, if you are just looking for a reel, the Chronarch CH50MG cannot be beat at your pricing point. The ideal rod to match it up with would be a G.Loomis GLX MBR844C. This combination will also be your jig rig!

I agree with the others, the rod matters more than the reel. My main light worm casting rod is my G. Loomis GLX BCR852 with 12#Trilene 100% Flouro. The reel I think is a personal preference as long as it is decent quality, I am using a Revo S on this rod. I just got into fishing plastics this past year and have had no issues with this setup.

Thanks for the replys, Big Help - really appreciated.....

Think i'm gonna with the combo roadwarrior recomended

thanks again!

EDIT...Now that i've had time to look for the G loomis rods  all i can find is "Heavy Power" for this model.....I wasnt sure about that since it seems it might be hard to pick up small bites this way,  but i guess i could be totally wrong bout that.

You may want to clarify your intentions for this combo before dropping that kind of cash...  your original post talked of light weight casting... the MBR844GLX does have a pretty delicate tip for a Hvy rod but all within reason.  If you consider 4"-5"senkos and t-rigs light then you are going to love that combo but if you want to cast truely light baits you may step down a power.

Detecting the bite isn't the trouble...  in a GLX rod, you should feel everything nicely!  I was just worried that you might want an 843 (loomis calls it MH) which has a lighter tip and will cast lighter baits.

I'm not trying to be an alarmist, but want to be sure you don't say "oops" after dropping $375 on a rod.

Best,

keith
