What line to use when and where

Featured Replies

hey guys..its time to respool all 13 of my reels and Im ready to change up my line..I have been using 12lb to 20 lb pline xtreme..

Give me an idea what you guys use with my different reel setups..I fish a lake that has much standing timber..the water  color is slightly stained..

When fishing crankbaits type of line and lb

When fishing suspending jerk baits like pointers and xraps

When fishing jigs

When fishing texas rigs

When fishing spot removers, shakey heads, football heads

When fishing spinnerbaits

When fishing topwaters

dropshotting

Carolina rigging

Any input would be appreciated

This is what I use:

When fishing crankbaits: 12 lb. Flouro

When fishing suspending jerk baits: 12 lb. Flouro

When fishing jigs: 50 lb. Braid

When fishing texas rigs: 12 lb. Hybrid on 1 set-up & 30 lb. Braid on another set-up

When fishing spot removers, shakey heads: 10 lb. Hybrid

When fishing spinnerbaits: 12 lb. Hybrid

When fishing topwaters: 14 lb. Mono

dropshotting: 8 lb. Hybrid

Carolina rigging: 30 lb. Braid with Flouro Leader

Frogs: 30 lb. Braid

my general preferences....

cranks- 20lb braid, or lighter.

jerk baits- 6-10lb flouro/mono

jigs-20+lb braid, or heavier (when flipping)

texas rigs-same as jigs when flipping, 10lb mono for finnesse

shakey heads- 10-20lb braid

spinnerbaits- 12-15lb flouro, mono, or braid if really weedy

topwaters- 10lb mono

droppshotting- 6-8lb flouro or mono

carolina- your preferred line with an 8-10lb flouro or mono leader

For further references, it would be a good idea to include hybrid or co-polymer lines wherever flouro or mono is mentioned. These are all the heaviest weight i would go, they are pretty standard for casting gear, some techniques would be better suited with spinning gear, and generally lighter line.

Buy a small spool and see for yourself, it's not a big investment.

I have fished many lines over the years and continue to experiment

with others. Yo-Zuri works for me, I hope it works out for you, too.
