What to look for in a soft plastics rod?

im hoping to give soft plastics a try and am wondering what should i look for in a good soft plastics fishing rod

im really a newb to choosing a rod and reel(fishing in general :-[) and would like any advice on what to look for B)

    I would recommend a 6 1/2' or 7' Medium Power/ Fast Action spinning rod.

    Thats a pretty good place to start. What type of cover,structure, and bass (LM,SM,or both) your going to be fishing also has alot to do with what rod you choose.
