Who owns a REVO S or SX

Featured Replies

I am just trying to figure out if i will be able to tell a big diference in a Revo S or the SX will i be able to tell much diference i know the S has 9 bearings and the SX has 11 is there really a lot of diference?

I have a couple of Revo SCs (9 bearings) and a couple of Revos SXs (11 bearings).  The Revo SC is basically a Revo S with a magnetic brake.  There is no discernible difference in performance between the SC and SX.

i have 2 of the sx but ive never done anything with the S's so i couldnt tell you what the difference is. whichever you buy id lube it up well before a lot of use, both of mine came all but bone dry.

I own both reels as well as the SC.  As for overall fishability, I can't say one is any better than the other, I honestly can't tell the difference between the two as far as the bearings are concerned.  The only big difference is in the braking systems.  The centrifugal brakes on the S reels have a lot more impact on casting distance and backlash control than the mag brakes on the SX or SC.

Is the brake on the S more effective that the one on the SC/SX?  I'd image it would have to be  B), but like to hear it from someone who uses both.

Yep. They operate like Cent. brakes on most other reels and you do notice the difference when making changes.  As for the mag brakes on the other two?  Sometimes I wonder what the heck they're there for.  I can pull the side plate off and see how the adjustment works but in real life, cranking the dial from one side to the other seems to make little difference in casting distance. I was going to pull one of the sideplates off this winter and see if you could move the mag plate closer to the spool like you could on some of the older mag Garcia reels and see if it makes a difference.

So basically what you guys are saying is save my money and buy the Revo S over the SX. Sound about right.  B)

Depends.  If you're more reliant on the braking systems of fishing reels to aid in backlash control than I'd suggest the S model because you'll notice changes you make in the braking system much more than you do with the SX.  If you're not as reliant on the brakes and have a more educated thumb, the SX might be the reel for you.  Especially if you need the 7.1 gear ratio which isn't available in the S reel.  Plus the SX is in that cool black color.   8-)

Depends on which brake system you want. If you don't mind messing around with a mechanical brake, you apparently won't be handicapped by the S's 9 bearings.

If you decide you want a magneitc brake, check out the Revo SC sold by Cabelas.

Where are the extra bearings?

I have been looking at the schematics for all of the revo's except for the Premier and Inshore, they are all identical inside except for the gearing and the brakeing systems.

As far as bearing counts, I own a Revo S-L, has 9 bearings.

I just took that reel down to a blank set plate, the actual bearing count is 9.

1 at the end of the crank shaft, 1 under cast control cap (spool shaft support), 1 palming plate (spool shaft support), 1 behind engagement pin (spool shaft support), 4 in crank paddles (2 in each), 1 one-way roller.

FYI in any reel, all bearing counts over 3, the extras will be in the crank and the line carriage assemblies.

Just my .02¢ B)
