Swivels

Featured Replies

Do any of you guys fish cranks/spinnerbait/buzzbait/etc. with a swivel tied on?  I've always tried to shy away from this, thinking the fish could see it or that it would hurt the action of the bait.

I don't think using a swivels will hurt the action of a lure and I use them on any crank baits. The only one I use is the BPS with Interlack snap. I have caught a lot of fish using them and never had on come open.

It is going to be hard to use a swivel on a spinnerbair or buzzbait that has a r type wire frame.

I only use a snap, sans the swivel. The swivel just messes up the action and changes the action on a lot of Rapala baits: Originals, Shad Raps and DT's and i use these more than other cranks and it has a profound effect of tightening the wobble on rapala Lures! If you are using spinning equipment i have a way to combat line twist. On the tag end of your line tie a Barrel Swivel ( I like the non-bb ones) then add about 6 to 14 inches of leader line then a snap.

There are things you can do to alter a crank to get the wobble to work for you. They  have videos on www.rapala.com that show you the action of each lure, At one time they even discussed the effect of swivels had on thier lures.

Although I don't use swivels, I have had the pleasure of fishing with Bud.

I assure you, swivels take nothing away from him and perhaps compliment his presentation.

RW we have to try that again.  Maybe this time the wx will be better.   Bud

I used to use swivels all the time with cranks. The ball bearing swivels will effect the action of some lures, most noticably topwater's. Barrel swivels don't seem to nearly as much.
