Greasing and oiling 2 BPS Baitcasters

Featured Replies

Hey These reels are clean and make no noise, so Idecided not to send them out for lube. I know to put grease on the gears and oil on the level wind. When I opened the reel I can see 2 nylon gears, is that where the grease goes and how much? Also where do i put oil, other than on the level wind? I know these are basic questions, this was my first year with baitcasting after years of using just spinning reels. Thanks

I was just going to say fill a deep fryer with salad oil and dip....... :)

Muddy,

Nope the only greased gears are the brass main drive and the pinion gear. All other moving (rotating) parts (i e bearings) get one drop of oil, AFTER they have been cleaned..

Good Luck & Tight Lines!!!!

Thanks Dave, what do I do with the extra parts?

That's what I was thinking.

I think I can do the "takin' apart", it's the "putin' back together" that seems to be the problem!

Place them in a baggie, and send them to Outdoor World Rod & Reel Repair. Then add a note pleading insanity, and asking for mercy from them..... :)

Good Luck & Tight Lines!!!!!

This might be obvious... but I lay everything out in a line as I take it apart, this way I know which order to put it all back.

I took apart 4 Abu's and a Cabelas a few month ago... if I hadn't done that I would have been hosed!
