I tried it many years ago when it first came out.  I can't remember why now but I didn't like it.  I know a lot of walleye guys liked it for trolling but thats still a far cry from casting cranks.

I tried fireline for several applications.  I didn't like it for any of them so I cut it off and put Power Pro on 5 years ago.  I now have it on at least 10 setups.

I bought two spools when it came out at about $15 a spool.  It ended up costing me about $50 in crankbaits.  

I'll never use it again.  One of the worst lines I have ever used.  

I have since switched to using PowerPro and/or Suffix.

Fireline is one of the worst braids you can buy.

IMHO: Braided line is NOT for crankbaits !!! One exception: ripping lipless CBs through weeds.

Braids have almost zero strech and you would ripp the trebble hooks out of the fishes mouth on the hookset or later, while you are fighting it. If you decide to use braid anyhow, make sure you are using a SLOW action rod, and back of the drag.

Fireline is AWESOME!!! I only use Fireline and Stren Superbraid. Any one of theese are GREAT!!!

Fireline was the first braid I used.It is a very strong line but just too stiff. After trying a few differant brands I have settled on the suffix braid.

I also use braid with my cranking outfit but it is a fiberglass rod.It works for me. JMO

I love fireline on spinning reels and also used it for 3 applications with cranks (both on spinning and baitcasting).  Since cranks are mostly reaction baits I am not very concerned with visibility and because fireline has more body it will not tangle in the cranks hooks as much as a very soft braid would.  

1 -- Ripping baits through weeds.  Low stretch lines are simply the best way to do this.  

2 -- Throwing very light cranks far.  By using a superline I can cast much farther and easier than with a similar strength mono.  

3 -- Maximizing depth -- Thinner line will allow baits to dive deeper

Regarding pulling hooks out, I have a different take on that.  Using a line with stretch means that the more line you have out the more stretch you'll have (with less sensitivity and other drawbacks).  On the other hand, if the rod and drag are chosen/set to provide the needed "give" to prevent pulling hooks then one can still have the maximum sensitivity and thin diameter of a superline regardless of how far they cast.

Like many other things Fireline has it's place and that is on spinning tackle.  Just a slight amount of memory to keep it spooled up and yes it does work well with a med-light action rod with smaller crank baits. I use Power Pro on some of my bait casters, but found it to be too limp for spinning reels.

If you fish it for about 2-3 days Fireline starts to loosen up. When the Smoke color starts to look white. It's AWESOME!!!
