i need some line to spool up two baitcasters that will mainly be used for jigs and t-rigs in moderate cover....thought about trying something new...i normally use trilene XT and recently big game(dont like it)...any suggestions?

Trilene 100% Flouro, PLine CXX, BPS Excel...the choices are endless.

Red, what's wrong with Big Game. I love it, use it 90% of the time. To your question, for jigs and T-rigs, I reeeaaalllyyy like the Trilene Professional 100% Flouro. It is a little on the $$, but is an excellent line.

dont know, i have been using 12lb big game and i just dont like it...seems too springy or something...

I like the 14# Suffix Elite I spooled on my Patriarch last Sunday. You can't go wrong with Yo-Zuri Hybrid in 12# either, IMO

I went back to stren this year. After years of chasing the "perfect line", I have gone back to the original and it has not failed me. For the money I spend, I can respool twice as often for the same price and I think that I end up with much less memory with it.

Trilene is my second choice but defininitly not the "Iron Silk".

I hate braid in most situations as well.

roadwarrior, I'm trying to understand the thinking on this and here is why. If fishing in an area where your likely to get snagged don't you want to use a line around #10-12 so you can break it? If you use the #20 line you will be moving your boat allot to get the snag loose or cut the line.

Also the idea of such heavy line on a casting reel seems to me that it would really cut down on casting distance. This is just the thinking of a newbie when it comes to baitcasting rigs. Maybe I think to much! :-[ Mike

I haven't seen it anywhere else. Cabelas seems to have a lock on the Ultra Soft. They put it on sale a couple of months back and I grabbed 1/2 dozen spools, so I'm set for a while. I use Ultra Soft and Power Pro exclusively (except leaders) for all my fishing. Great line makes everything better. JMHO

In the areas that I fish, the entire bottom is covered in fallen/submerged timber.  Anything less than 20lb test and you don't even get to see your fish.  You'll feel her wrap you up in the trees and then she's gone.  Scraping back and forth over and under multiple branches causes most lines to fray and snap.  If I get hung up, I do have to move over to it to get it off but this is a small price to pay for getting that 8 to 10 pounder out of the trees without breaking off.

#12 and even #15 can be broken, #20 cannot. #12 will not have much impact on "average" casting distance. Perhaps at the maximum, 50 yards instead of 55 or 60, but there is nothing noticable in the 25-30 yard range.

Good point EastTexasBassin, Most of my river fishing will be done from the shore so I think I will try #17. Strong but I can still break it if needed. Most of it is to deep to wade if I have to go after a snagg, Mike
