Bluegill colored skirts

Featured Replies

So, I've been looking around for spinnerbaits with bluegill colored skirts (blue or green as the main color) and haven't had a lot of luck.  Anyone make anything like this?  Gambler has their "chatter" bait with a bluegill skirt.  Is that one any good?  I can buy those skirts and put them on other spinnerbaits if they are.

Have you checked into Strike King skirts? I think they make pretty good spinnerbait skirts. I have actually trimmed down extra skirts I had and used them for jigs, too. I have not seen an actual bluegill skirt that they make, but I would  just try to find a skirt that matched bluegil pattern. Bluegill are a main forage fish where I live (Alabama), I have bluegill cranks and have customized some skirts that resemble them.  I just keep my sharpies and a set of spike-it markers for tweeking.

I spent about a half an hour last night looking through all of the spinnerbaits and didn't see that one.

Thanks!

I bought two of those, I love the color, it is something a little different from everything else.  I am trying them out this afternoon...

If I am trying to match the small 1.5" bluegills that are common in certain parts this time of year I prefer a lighter color.  I find the bitsy bug in smoke pepper red to be very good when those young gills are abundant.  It doesn't sound like a good color, but the combinations comes out kind of a pale bluish or primer gray color.

I have been trying to perfect a good bluegill colored skirt for over a year. Right now I have about a dozen different versions and most usually end up looking like firetiger. This winter I will perfect a bluegill spinnerbait but my airbrush setup needs to be repaired so I can paint the heads.

Karu has a good bluegill pattern
