Shiamno Stella FB 100

Recommended Posts

Looking at buying on the the Shimano Stella FB 100 from bass pro. They have them marked down to 449.88. Wondering if anyone has used thees reels. Also thinking about just buying one of the new Sustains and picking up a Curado for about the same as just the stella. But if the stella is worth the money then I'm willing to buy one.

For that money personally I'd much rather get the new stradic 1000 and a Chronarch mg.

This way you can get 2 really good reel. I'm not sure what are you planning to do w/ the 1000 size but i'm sure the stradic can handle it just as well.

yeah i've been thinking about my options. i just don't want to pass up on the stella and then regret it later. but i want the 1000 size. I use to fish quantum reels and I had more of the size 10 reels then I did the 20 size because I personally like a smaller reel in my hand. But the 1000 size is about what a quantum 15 would be like which would be perfect for me. but thanks for the idea about the stradic and the chronarch mg.

Dont get me wrong I would love to someday pull the trigger on the stella.

Personally I just can't justify it. but if you have the money and want to reward yourself, dont let me talk you out of it.

For me using a spinning reel I'd still have to pump and reel fishes in so I dont invest too much in them. My shimano Ultegra 2500 which I bought 5yrs ago is still going strong. Its around $100 back then. I have caught some nice size rays/guitar fishes off the pier and surf w/ no problem.

Well I look at it like this to. If I go with the stella I can't say that there might be a better reel on the market. I've picked them up before and by far they feel like the best reel made so far. Most people would more than likely agree. Plus $449.88 is a good deal instead of the new ones that are $599.99.

Untill you get to the Daiwa Steez.

Now THAT's a premium reel.

I have two Stella 2500FB and a 1000FA. They are like holding (another name for kitty cat) in your hand. You will not be disappointed.

There is something I would do though. Although I have never bought a Shimano that I felt "needed" service right out of the box, a discounted reel that is being replaced by a new model might have been built two or three years ago. I would probably have it serviced by ReelMech before using it. He stated in a recent post that even brand new reels perform better with a fresh cleaning and lubrication. Just a thought.

I have three stella's and would say"GET THE STELLA" You will be very happy with it. As far as the steez goes, it is not as goodas the stella. The steez baitcaster is fine but the spinning steez is not that great.

I have the Stella 1000FB and it's an amazing reel. I would suggest you do a search on ebay for Stella. There are several retail sellers there who will beat that price. I paid $275 about 2 years ago. You probably won't get that kind of price, but I would bet you can beat the $450 price by quite a bit.

You won't be disappointed in the Stella.  I bought one last year on ebay - a Japanese model that requires the bail to be closed by hand.  Since I do this on all my spinning reels, it is nothing out of the norm for me.  Anyway, the Stella is a dream.  I understand the new models are even sweeter than ever.  The 1000 on a ML Avid should be a very nice handling rig.  Congrats on your choice.

Going to put it on a 6'6" St. Croix Avid ML rod

That is my EXACT set-up. Mine is spooled with Yo-Zuri Hybrid Ultra Soft #4 (.009" diameter, 8.5 lb test).

Great choice !

I love my Stellas,  and oddly enough I too close by bail by hand.  My fishing mentor showed me this years ago and it just stuck.

Hey

I know this is really not a comparison but does the new Shimano spinning reels with the propulsion technolgy really cast further then the old reels.  For instance:

Does the new Stradic FI cast better than the Stella 1000FB?

Basically what I'm asking is does the new technology make a better reel... if so wouldn't that mean that the Stradic or Sustain FE be superior than on old model Stella?  I'm gonna pull the trigger on one may it be the new Stradic FI, Sustain FE or the old Stella 1000FB

**Can't afford the New Stella FD ($600 is outrageous in today's economy" ***  ;)

The new Stradic FH has incorporated many of the features previoulsy only available on the Stella. The new Stradics are very nice reels, but they are not a "better" reels than the Stella FB.
