FISHING LINE QUESTION

Featured Replies

Can somebody settle a bet for me ?

i have a buddy that won't put more than 10 lb test on his spinning reel

because on the spool it's printed 6lb 8lb 10lb , he thinks he will ruin the reel if he puts 12lb or 14lb on it . I told him it doesn't matter as long as he doesn't go over what the rod is rated for , the rod is rated for 8- 15 lb, as far as the reel goes he just will lose line capacity going w/a heavier line .

                        am i wrong?

PS the reel is a pfeluger supreme 8035 and the rod is a 7' med heavy loomis imx.

Yes , you are correct , but how are you going to get your buddy to believe me , a person he does not know ?

he's the type that if more than one person tells him somthing that's good enough for him .

Nope, won't hurt a thing but it will not hold as much line and he may loose a little casting distance. ;)

Won't kill your reel, but WILL effect performance if you get too big.

Just tell him to use Yo-Zuri Hybrid 10#. I think it has an ACTUAL rated strength of around 16# so that should well negate the need for heavier and bulkier line. IMO:o)

The amount of pound test isn't what determines the capacity anyway.

The diameter of the line is what determines how much is able to be  put on the spool.

tell him one guy on here uses weedeater cord on his ultralight........ ;D

Right the line size is just a guidline for how much line to put on the reel
