  1. I already have a symetre 1500 i bought this past summer and my brother bought a pflueger president so we have good medium spinners covered, we want ultra lights now. keep opinions coming.
  2. I'm looking to buy me and my brother 2 ultralight spinning combos for Christmas while the online sales are going on. nothing fancy or expensive. I'm looking at 2 different combos. They will be used for bream/bluegill and eventually some small/medium rainbow trout in a local river(simpsey river) below the d**n of a large deep coldwater lake (smith lake) in north Alabama where they stock rainbows several times a year. Bass Pro Shops has the Bass Pro Shops TinyLite Spinning Rod and Reel Combo for 14.99, normal 19.99 it has excellent reviews. It's 5.4 oz and a 4'6" UL graphite rod with eva foam handle. 2 bearings. Overall rating 4.7 out of 5 with 12 reviews. http://www.basspro.com/webapp/wcs/stores/servlet/ProductDisplay?storeId=10151&catalogId=10001&langId=-1&partNumber=91148&hvarTarget=search&hvarAID=&cmCat=10006590 The other is Cabela's Fish Eagle Classic Spinning Combo. it's 7.8 oz with 4 bearings, with a 5' im6 graphite and cork handle. it's 19.99 and normally 29.99. overall rating on the reel alone is 4.6 out of 5 with 26 reviews. http://www.cabelas.com/cabelas/en/templates/product/standard-item.jsp?_DARGS=/cabelas/en/common/catalog/item-link.jsp_A&_DAV=holidaysale&id=0064799122572a&navCount=0&podId=0064799&parentId=cat604038&masterpathid=&navAction=push&catalogCode=1AJ&rid=&parentType=index&indexId=cat601233&hasJS=true The cabelas combo looks like a better deal to me. Although I'm not really sure if it would be considered an ultralite or not. Thanks for any help!!
  3. I guess I can try that...Ironically, I was putting the new/exchanged reel on the rod when I raised the tip of the rod, while thinking "watch the fan" and chop.....literally made me kinda sick at my stomach....
  4. The reason I was thinking about trying to pull one over on them is actually based on a recent experience my brother had with them. Last summer both me and my brother bought a bass pro johny morris sig series combo during the spring classic sale. I also bought another identical real. after a month or so, one of mine and also my brothers reels started making a whining noise and stopped throwing very far. well, at the fist of this spring they took them back to nashville bps and they one guy told them they'd swap them out. then when they had to get a manager to approve it, they refused. then they got another manager and he approved it and sent them back to the front to do it. then they refused. they finally got some kind of product manager or something......cant remember.....and my brothers girlfriend, who had bought his for him for his bday and is one of these very stingy people lol. She was almost at tears about the whole situation, after 2 1/2 hours going back and forth with all these managers telling them yes then no. So instead of trying to go through this garbage, I was just trying to think of a diff way, because in OUR situation, they had a very crappy policy and the management didnt know what to do......one would approve then the next would come along and say they couldn't...so i was just trying to avoid a repeat. I'll just go tell them what happened, and if they dont swap it, i'll NEVER set foot in there store again and I spend approximately $8000 a year with them so I hope they'll take care of me.....If not I'll finally just try a carrot stick I guess, been curious bout them anyway.
  5. I have a Bass Pro Johny Morris sig. series rod and real I bought last summer. both look brand new. Except i got the rod in the ceiling fan a couple weeks ago. Very clean break, looks like u cut it with a hacksaw. Wonder if I could get it swapped out....I love this rod....I know this is dishonest as I wouldnt tell them how it broke i don't guess. I know St Croix and some others have unconditional warranties and don't care what breaks the rod...doubt that applies to Bass Pro........any opinions on what I should do? May just try a carrot stick if they wont swap it for me.....thanks
  6. out of curiosity, why do yall hate them?
  7. i watched a fishing show a few years ago and they were fishing a pond/lake next to the daytona nascar track and catching small to medium peacock bass. I wanna come down there one day and fish for them in south florida somehow.........what is the best place to go?
  8. I guess that's what it was. it was grey and much much smaller. Looks alot like it, would like to see its head and mouth a little closer, i'm about to look them up on here. thanks for the reply.
  9. you know, i almost took one with my phone, i did get one of the fish but with the flashlight it didnt take good so i didnt even try the eel thing. i started to keep it in the livewell and bring it home but i was afraid it would swim in my hoses and get hung up.
  10. Last night on Guntersville lake, I caught a 4.7 lb bass and it had an eel looking thing on its side. It came off in the boat and i looked in its mouth, which was more on the bottom of its head, more like a suction cup, with little teeth looking things in it. What is this?? My friend said he thinks its what they call a freshwater eel, but i dont think so. I didnt know we had anything that sucks onto fish like that here, other than leeches. Oh, and it had several little gill slits behind its head on each side and tiny little eyes, it was about 10 inches long.
  11. That snake on pic is funny as crap!!!!! I HATE those commercials....but they do what they're supposed to, I'll NEVER forget their product...although I'd prob never buy them because of the commercials lol.
  12. Don't bother asking permission here in Alabama, even if you know the owner, or even a family member, rarely will anybody let you fish here from my experience in the last 10 years or so....it's sad, but people who don't respect property and leave trash etc have ruined it here for most of us who do. Alabama state law, all land is posted. No signs necessary. Back in the day(teen years) we'd ride the roads during the day and hit what we found that night!!! Caught alot of nice bass doing that lol. I don't do it now but man I miss those days!!!!!!! I have a small pond now next to my house. I don't let anybody but family and friends fish it. I NEVER thought I'd be one of them aholes lol. Guess it's different when it's your own......Sad but true! Sometimes I still spot a big pond and think....I should sneak in that thing........but i don't. Oh, we did ask alot of the time and usually got a no, we would DEFINATELY go back that night then!!! Especially if they were mean about it.
  13. Best advice I can give you. Visit and join www.pondboss.com Best place on the net for pond owners!!!! Great people there!! They know what they're talking about.
  14. Just wondering if anybody is doing anygood at Guntersville? I head they didn't do much at the big tournament this past weekend...
  15. I used to keep all kinds of snakes as pets back in my teen years and early 20's. I used to make water snakes bite me to show people how harmless they are. yes they do stink worse than most snakes when they release it. smells rough!! more so than others i've smelled. I don't really like the idea of hooking one of em, i guess cause i love snakes. oh and gator, anybody ever told u ur not too smart? lol I've heard the same bout my snakecatching, i guess it's whatever creatures we're familiar with and used to.
  16. I've got 7 grass carp in my small pond. I hooked 3 of em one day on bread using an old 2 1/2' rod and zebco 33 bream fishing. straightened my hooks out when they got to the bank and saw me. They never have bit the bread since. They're bout leg length, would like to land one and weight it. Mine are extremely spooky, how in the world do u tame them? I feed my bluegill everyday and the carp eat it like crazy but they spook alot when they see me...aggrevates me lol.
  17. Topwater mostly, texas rigged worm alot, spinnerbait some. Black buzzbait seems to be the best at night!!! Catch alot of big bass at night on the buzz!!!
  18. OH!!!!!!! lol guess I'll hunt a better deal.........
  19. I just read the bottom of the page on the nada guide. anything older than a '99, the price doesn't include the motor or trailer. So that explains the low price. I looked at a 99 and then a 98 and the worth was less than half on the 98 and it doesn't list an engine like the 99 does. So It appears I'm still gettin an awesome deal. Now all i need is for it to run good when I take it out this Friday. Anybody know where I can find a decent compression gauge fairly cheap for one time use, and how to check the compression? Thanks
  20. that n.a.d.a price is WAYYYYYYY off from real world pricing from what I've seen on ebay and boattrader.com Is that for dealers or something? Bout all of em I'm finding online are twice what nada quotes.....
  21. Ok I have an update on the situation and need more opinions. I went and looked at the boat. It appears to be a 94' (last four digits in serial number?) stratos 270 dual console with 95' 150 intruder (3 blade ss prop), 95 trailer, has trim on engine, 2 huge deka trolling batts(1 year old) and deka starting batt. seats look fairly good to me. lots of switches on dash and on front, in dash flasher, hummingbird on front probably needs replacing(screen discolored) has some slight scuffs on bottom, two small chips(half inche or so) both repaired, one on the front edge of the v, one on the very back below engine where the bottom meets the bottom of the transom , floor/decks solid as can be, he says every switch and button on the boat works. We didn't get to take it out but I'm going back asap to put it on the water. Boat has always been garage kept and also covered. He only used it once last summer after having new plugs put in, oil injector rebuilt, and a new water pump installed. New tires on single axle trailer. The boat looks pretty darned good to me, not many scratches, has some minor gel coat cracks in the back corners next to the engine hatch. He said that's pretty common on stratos? No fading whatsoever on boat. Shiny as can be, looks brand new colorwise other than normal/minor surface scratches from boat docks, shoes, etc. nothing deep. Still looks like a good deal to me for 4,500. After driving the boat I'm gonna start at 4,000 if it runs good and see where we meet. I looked on boattrader.com and all of the 94's (some 270's some 284's) were a good bit higher($7,000-13,000) than this one except for one that didnt look as good of shape. Oh and the carpet looks pretty good also. He's gonna have the bearings packed and a return line leak on one of the carbs fixed this week before I take it out. Oh, he said he thinks its a 17'6 ft. Anybody know? The 270's on boattrader.com say 18'. The boat is black and silver with red pinstripes/accents. Makes me think of a Dale Earnhardt color scheme. Very sharp!!!!!!!!! Where did the 270 model rank in the 94 models? Now with this info I need new opinions please. Thanks for all the help guys.
  22. Anybody tried the fishing snake? It looks awesome, but alot of other lures do too and aint worth a crap lol.
  23. Boy if they hit them rats you're gonna have some fun......ribbits work well too alot of the time. They used to really like chrome/blue back rattle traps alot too. Man I hope I buy that bass boat i'm going to look at today!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I'm goin crazy to get back to Gville....Also, then I'd be able to meet up with you guys next weekend. I grew up fishing Gville but have only been 3 or 4 times in about 10 years since I moved...... :'(
  24. Where is Bankhead lake in Alabama? I'm not familiar with this place, I live close to Bankhead National Forest...you talking about that pond there??
  25. Ok good!!!! I know the boat has an intruder so that means I'm in the clear on that.....shewwwwwwww Now hopefully the owners excellent condition is the same as my excellent condition. It's gonna be stormy here fri and sat so I may have to give him a couple hundred to hold it till it's nice enough for me to take it to the lake and try it out. Should I run it for an hour or so? or is just a few runs up and down the lake sufficient? My brother said run it for an hour, that sometimes they wont show engine problems till the engine is good and hot....
