good deal on a 97 stratos?
I have a chance to buy a 97 stratos, either 18 or 18.5 ft with an evinrude 150 intruder for $4,500. has minor cracks in seats, evinrude trolling motor. hummingbird on front, in dash flasher. boat in excellent shape, garage kept. I haven't seen the boat but going to look at it tommorrow. Sounds like a great deal to me just by it's description. prices I found on ebay and boattrader.com are a good bit higher. I don't know which model the boat is. What do you think? was the 97 intruder 150 a good motor? Thanks!!

Opinions on aqua-vu cameras
Anybody use aqua-vu(or marcum) cameras to find fish or just to watch them for fun/education? I've wanted one for years. Especially to watch them in my 1/2 acre pond. Any opinions on which are the best for the money? color or black and white? Thanks for any help!!

Carrot Stix Grip
I saw these at a local sporting goods store yesterday and checked em out. Felt pretty nice, at first sight I thought it was some cheap catfish rod or something. I had never heard of them, but when I picked it up I liked it pretty good. I'd like to try one out. They have a BUNCH of them there......Just spent too much at bps sat to try one right now though. Maybe later. I look forward to peoples opinions on the rods performance though.

fixing up my rundown boat! Need help!!!
It's been outside, I am pretty sure the steering system is fine, it turns and stuff fine, I just put the cable on it last time i fixed it up.bout 4 years ago, only used it once cause of money at the time. it does need a little wiring redone that i know of. I do plan to buy a newer pretty nice boat in a couple years. My dad bought this boat new and he's gone now. So I dont wanna get rid of it so I figured I might as well fix it up and use it till i get some land paid off in a couple years then buy a newer one. transom is solid as can be, two little soft spots in the floor, decks solid as can be, gel coat is peeling off like crazy cause the guy that redone it bout 8 years ago done it wrong. $800 wasted for a year of looking good before peeling. I think I can get it fishable for bout $500 bucks probably unless the sound I hear is something major.

fixing up my rundown boat! Need help!!!
First off, I have an 86 15'6" fiberglass Stryker bass boat with a '87 evinrude 60hp on it. My dad bought the boat band new. It has been setting up for about 5 years. The floor has some soft spots so i'll have to replace it. i know the carbs will have to be cleaned/rebuilt. I engaged the throttle and turned the prob by hand and hear a loud squeaking sound about half way up between the foot and the block. Sounds like rubber. I guess there is a rubber seal that the shaft goes through? I know nothing about the internals. trim motor also not working. worked fine last time the boat was used. could just be a switch, the trim motor was fairly new. I'll have to put a volt meter on that. Thanks for any help you can give me. I'm trying to find a reputable boat mech to take it to. just curious bout that sound!!!!

Help choosing a bream/crappie spinning setup
Cool!!! It's a shame that I live so close to so many awesome lakes and don't even fish them hardly anymore.....I'm about to restore my old rundown bassboat. Right now I'm limited to my 4x8 bass hunter with trolling motor only lol. I love that thing tho! specially for $50 from a friend!! Throw it in back of my truck and off I go!!

Help choosing a bream/crappie spinning setup
Roadwarrior, you are correct. Where did them smallmouth come from? I've only caught 2 smallies ever. I'm close to Wheeler and Wilson lakes, and Guntersville and Smith lakes. I'd like to get on some of them lol Oh yeah, I'm gonna do some rainbow trout fishing with whatever I get also. Nothing big just some small ones on the Sypsey River below Smith Lake dam.... Thanks

Help choosing a bream/crappie spinning setup
Wow!!! lol you must REALLY like crappie!! Bout like me building $2000 ar-15 rifles that I don't even shoot hardly ever and just ordered a .50 cal rifle(won't mention price on that badboy, lol) that I can't afford to shoot!!!!!! We tend to get carried away huh? lol Looks like that Shimano symetre is hard to beat from all the people recommending it, I wish it was on sale. Wonder why none of the Shimanos are??? That pflueger president is looking pretty tempting, or maybe the bps extreme. I've heard alot of good things on the extreme baitcaster for the sale price. Oh, and that new Quantum KVD baitcaster is a nice looking baitcaster!!! No telling what I'll leave with lol!!! I'm in that spending mood and I sure do like sales......Thanks!

Help choosing a bream/crappie spinning setup
Ok I think I'm down to a few final reels. I read some of the reviews on basspro since thats where I'll be going Sat for the sale. I'm going for ultralite or a size up I guess. Help me choose between these...remember also, I'll do a little bit of bass fishing with this setup occasionally. Bass Pro Shops® Micro Lite Supreme Spinning Reel $39.99 / Bass Pro Shops® Micro Lite Supreme Spinning Rod and Reel Combos 49.99 Pflueger® President® Micro Ultralight Spinning Reel - Model 6720X $49.95 Pflueger® President® Spinning Reels $59.95-64.95 / Pflueger® President® Reel/Extreme® XPS® Rod Combos $119.94 Pflueger® Trion® GX-7 Spinning Reel 29.95-39.95 Shimano® Sahara® Spinning Reels 59.99 Shimano® Sedona® Spinning Reels $49.99 Shimano® Symetre® Spinning Reels - Front Drag OR rear drag?? (which is better????) 79.99 / Shimano® Symetre® Reel /ProLite Finesse XPS® Rod Spinning Combos $149.98 Also, I'm not sure what sizes makes it an ultralight. I'm new to all this spinning reel stuff lol. I really don't wanna spend the money on the higher priced ones to bream/crappie fish, BUT since I'll be doing a little bass fishing with it also, if one is really THAT much better than the cheaper ones then that's what I'll get. I want something that'll last for sure!!! What action etc rod should I get for my application? Sorry if I seem dumb bout all this spinning stuff..... :-/ Need all the input I can get before Sat morning so hellllllllp in my final decision please!!!! Thanks!!!!!!!!!!!! I really appreciate the opinions so far guys!!! Oh and the combos are an option(probably the best one) Maybe some of the combos listed will be on sale!

lake guntersville 3/17-3/22
Expect some amazing bass fishing if you can get on em' Guntersville has one of the largest average size catches in the country!!! If you see any milfoil or Hydrilla mats on top of the water definately drag a white mouse across it!!!!!!!!!!! Ribbits also work good on and around the edges of it. I doubt there will be any on top that early though but just in case, keep that in mind....

Help choosing a bream/crappie spinning setup
I need help choosing a moderately priced spinning rig, mainly for bream and some crappie fishing. Maybe even some occasional bass fishing. I want an ultralite setup to make the bream/crappie fishing really fun. I have a friend who bass fishes with striclty ultralight spinning setups and has 2 bass just over 9 1/2 lbs each on his wall! lol No way I'd be that brave!!! I may just buy a moderately priced seperate spinning setup for occasional bass fishing but don't want to spend to much. All I've ever used is baitcasters for bass. I will GREATLY appreciate recommendations!! I'll be going to the BPS sale sept 29 or 30th in Nashville. So preferably recommend something they sell. Thanks !!!! Added: My moderate would be $50 or so for a bream combo I guess, make all recommendations though!!!! Might spend more on a bass combo!!!

lights on a bass hunter??
Need suggestions on the best way to mount some lights on a bass hunter 8' boat. I'm gonna be using it in Lake Guntersville some in the evenings and after dark and I'll need lights to be legal, I think I remember seeing clamp on lights in the past. That would be the best way i suppose, anybody done this? Thanks

trolling battery question
Yeah I know!! When I bought this battery I had just gotten out my older boat and was gonna fix it up a little so I went and bought the battery. Then discovered some other stuff on the boat that really wasn't worth fixing so it ended up just sitting there after a couple of trips to the lake. Rotten floor, carb problems, etc. Yeah I'm just gonna get me a new battery when I receive my trolling motor I ordered off of ebay. Any recommendations? Mostly pond and some small creeks, but I will be taking it to Guntersville Lake a fairly good bit to fish around the banks. I want a big one that'll troll all day. The trolling motor is a motorguide T34. 34 lb thrust. Thanks!!!!!!!

what baitcast reel should i get?
If you don't mind spending a little......catch Bass Pro Shops when they have the BPS Johny Morris Signature Series Baitcaster on sale. I got the Reel and matchin rod on sale recently for $224 and a single reel for $129. These are by far the best reels I've ever used!!!!!! Even better than my previous favorite Team Daiwa. The rod blows my St Croix Avid and my All Stars out of the water also. Without a doubt one of the best rod and reels made in my opinion, and hands down the best made for the money!! This is my opinion, I've owned alot of high dollar and low dollar Rod and reels.

round baitcasters
I've never thought about the line capacity thing on the round reels, I absolutely HATE them though, but I guess they have their place after reading this thread!!

trolling battery question
I just bought an 8' bass hunter boat for pond fishing for $50 and I have a 3 year old Stowaway trolling battery that was only charged and used like twice after getting my older boat running after setting up for a few years. The battery has been in the boat and outside since it was bought. So it has been in some cold weather. Now when I am charging the battery and stick the volt meter to it, it shows about 14 volts, when i unhook the charger and stick the leads back to it, it shows about 8.65 volts and drops .01 volt about every second or two. What is wrong with it? Does it have a bad cell or what? My brother says that some of the new chargers made now have a function which will reverse this. Cant remember what he called the condition. I don't know if he knows what he's talking about or not lol. Anybody have an idea if this can be fixed or not? I paid like $90 for that battery!!!! I hate to have to buy another, I checked the acid levels, all cells are full. Thanks for any advice and recommendations in advance!!!!!!!! Also, if there are battery chargers that may fix this, recommend brands and models please. Thanks again!
