help decide on a light spinning rod/reel combo for bream, small trout
I'm looking to buy me and my brother 2 ultralight spinning combos for Christmas while the online sales are going on. nothing fancy or expensive. I'm looking at 2 different combos. They will be used for bream/bluegill and eventually some small/medium rainbow trout in a local river(simpsey river) below the d**n of a large deep coldwater lake (smith lake) in north Alabama where they stock rainbows several times a year. Bass Pro Shops has the Bass Pro Shops TinyLite Spinning Rod and Reel Combo for 14.99, normal 19.99 it has excellent reviews. It's 5.4 oz and a 4'6" UL graphite rod with eva foam handle. 2 bearings. Overall rating 4.7 out of 5 with 12 reviews. http://www.basspro.com/webapp/wcs/stores/servlet/ProductDisplay?storeId=10151&catalogId=10001&langId=-1&partNumber=91148&hvarTarget=search&hvarAID=&cmCat=10006590 The other is Cabela's Fish Eagle Classic Spinning Combo. it's 7.8 oz with 4 bearings, with a 5' im6 graphite and cork handle. it's 19.99 and normally 29.99. overall rating on the reel alone is 4.6 out of 5 with 26 reviews. http://www.cabelas.com/cabelas/en/templates/product/standard-item.jsp?_DARGS=/cabelas/en/common/catalog/item-link.jsp_A&_DAV=holidaysale&id=0064799122572a&navCount=0&podId=0064799&parentId=cat604038&masterpathid=&navAction=push&catalogCode=1AJ&rid=&parentType=index&indexId=cat601233&hasJS=true The cabelas combo looks like a better deal to me. Although I'm not really sure if it would be considered an ultralite or not. Thanks for any help!!

Bass Pro question
I guess I can try that...Ironically, I was putting the new/exchanged reel on the rod when I raised the tip of the rod, while thinking "watch the fan" and chop.....literally made me kinda sick at my stomach....

Bass Pro question
The reason I was thinking about trying to pull one over on them is actually based on a recent experience my brother had with them. Last summer both me and my brother bought a bass pro johny morris sig series combo during the spring classic sale. I also bought another identical real. after a month or so, one of mine and also my brothers reels started making a whining noise and stopped throwing very far. well, at the fist of this spring they took them back to nashville bps and they one guy told them they'd swap them out. then when they had to get a manager to approve it, they refused. then they got another manager and he approved it and sent them back to the front to do it. then they refused. they finally got some kind of product manager or something......cant remember.....and my brothers girlfriend, who had bought his for him for his bday and is one of these very stingy people lol. She was almost at tears about the whole situation, after 2 1/2 hours going back and forth with all these managers telling them yes then no. So instead of trying to go through this garbage, I was just trying to think of a diff way, because in OUR situation, they had a very crappy policy and the management didnt know what to do......one would approve then the next would come along and say they couldn't...so i was just trying to avoid a repeat. I'll just go tell them what happened, and if they dont swap it, i'll NEVER set foot in there store again and I spend approximately $8000 a year with them so I hope they'll take care of me.....If not I'll finally just try a carrot stick I guess, been curious bout them anyway.

Bass Pro question
I have a Bass Pro Johny Morris sig. series rod and real I bought last summer. both look brand new. Except i got the rod in the ceiling fan a couple weeks ago. Very clean break, looks like u cut it with a hacksaw. Wonder if I could get it swapped out....I love this rod....I know this is dishonest as I wouldnt tell them how it broke i don't guess. I know St Croix and some others have unconditional warranties and don't care what breaks the rod...doubt that applies to Bass Pro........any opinions on what I should do? May just try a carrot stick if they wont swap it for me.....thanks

strange eel like critter in Guntersville lake????
you know, i almost took one with my phone, i did get one of the fish but with the flashlight it didnt take good so i didnt even try the eel thing. i started to keep it in the livewell and bring it home but i was afraid it would swim in my hoses and get hung up.

strange eel like critter in Guntersville lake????
Last night on Guntersville lake, I caught a 4.7 lb bass and it had an eel looking thing on its side. It came off in the boat and i looked in its mouth, which was more on the bottom of its head, more like a suction cup, with little teeth looking things in it. What is this?? My friend said he thinks its what they call a freshwater eel, but i dont think so. I didnt know we had anything that sucks onto fish like that here, other than leeches. Oh, and it had several little gill slits behind its head on each side and tiny little eyes, it was about 10 inches long.

Should I hook a snake in the head or tail?
That snake on pic is funny as crap!!!!! I HATE those commercials....but they do what they're supposed to, I'll NEVER forget their product...although I'd prob never buy them because of the commercials lol.

Do you "hop a fence" to fish?
Don't bother asking permission here in Alabama, even if you know the owner, or even a family member, rarely will anybody let you fish here from my experience in the last 10 years or so....it's sad, but people who don't respect property and leave trash etc have ruined it here for most of us who do. Alabama state law, all land is posted. No signs necessary. Back in the day(teen years) we'd ride the roads during the day and hit what we found that night!!! Caught alot of nice bass doing that lol. I don't do it now but man I miss those days!!!!!!! I have a small pond now next to my house. I don't let anybody but family and friends fish it. I NEVER thought I'd be one of them aholes lol. Guess it's different when it's your own......Sad but true! Sometimes I still spot a big pond and think....I should sneak in that thing........but i don't. Oh, we did ask alot of the time and usually got a no, we would DEFINATELY go back that night then!!! Especially if they were mean about it.

Should I hook a snake in the head or tail?
I used to keep all kinds of snakes as pets back in my teen years and early 20's. I used to make water snakes bite me to show people how harmless they are. yes they do stink worse than most snakes when they release it. smells rough!! more so than others i've smelled. I don't really like the idea of hooking one of em, i guess cause i love snakes. oh and gator, anybody ever told u ur not too smart? lol I've heard the same bout my snakecatching, i guess it's whatever creatures we're familiar with and used to.
