I think this is a nice looking fish were are they native to and do they fight harder then regular Bass? Size how big is a average peacock get more or less?

Have never fished for them myself :'(.Would sure like too.They are native to the Amazon R basin. but have been stocked in the Miami area. Don't think they get much farther North unless of unseasonably warm weather. They are actually in the Chiclid (sp) family. They haven't got as large here in US as in their native waters. From what I've heard here and seen on TV, would be great fishin' ...

They will ruin you for ay other type of fish.  The bites are explosive, and will make mincemeat out of your tackle.  You better have stout hooks and a drag that can handle their crazy runs.  The average is different, based on where you're fishing.  Where we go on the Rio ***** they average about 12 lbs.  Hook up into a 15 lb plus peacock and hang on for the ride.

I live in south florida on a good sized lake system,  the peacocks are here and run rampant I have seen them over 6 lbs and caught them over 4 lbs.  I know there is some monsters in my lake.  They are fun to catch for sure, florida has the butterfly peacocks not the speckled peacocks.  The Butterflies get about 10 lbs max.  (They are pretty)

those sure are some pretty fish, i wish we had them here in arkansas.

i watched a fishing show a few years ago and they were fishing a pond/lake next to the daytona nascar track and catching small to medium peacock bass. I wanna come down there one day and fish for them in south florida somehow.........what is the best place to go?

dade and broward canals are the best climate for the fish.

Pretty much any of the canals south of Delray beach. Did well on

Lake Ida this weekend.  They went from 1 to 4lbs and most were sight

casting. They also have a few other exotics down here that are great

fighters, especially on lighter gear.

If you want big ones head to South America. My biggest (23lbs) came

from Venezuela, but thanks to Hugo non Venezuelains are not allowed

into that area any more. Too bad it was a great big fish are.

Colombia will be the next up and coming big fish spot and right now

it might be the best deal (price). I know a gentleman who fished there

years ago (10-15yrs) and he has some pictures of quite a few 20lb+

size fish. He believes there are 30lbers in some spots that haven't

seen fisherman in a long time.

Peacocks bass are from the Amazon, but nowadays they can be found in most areas of Brazil. The 20+ can only be found in the Amazon, but there are other kinds of peacock bass that can tolerate colder weather however they are smaller (like the blue and the yellow peacock bass). The colder place they live in South America now is the reservoir of Itaipu Dam, however many fish still die during the winter.
