Bass Pro question

Recommended Posts

I have a Bass Pro Johny Morris sig. series rod and real I bought last summer. both look brand new. Except i got the rod in the ceiling fan a couple weeks ago. Very clean break, looks like u cut it with a hacksaw. Wonder if I could get it swapped out....I love this rod....I know this is dishonest as I wouldnt tell them how it broke i don't guess. I know St Croix and some others have unconditional warranties and don't care what breaks the rod...doubt that applies to Bass Pro........any opinions on what I should do? May just try a carrot stick if they wont swap it for me.....thanks

"Let your conscience be your guide." I'd take it back and just tell them what happened. I closed my Okuma in my Jeep hatch. Called them and they sent me a RA# and a letter. Took it to my local dealer and got a new one. If it broke that easily and cleanly there may have been a material defect. BPS will probably exchange it. Just remember if you are dishonest, you may get a new rod but, KARMAS a *****.

Tell 'em you broke it fightin' a biggun in to the boat!!!

Nah, just kidding. I say let your conscience lead you also. Nothing good comes from lies and deception (unless you're a politician and it get's you elected ;D).

I'm with the crowd on this one. We all benefit from their liberal return policy. If it gets abused, they could toughen up.

The reason I was thinking about trying to pull one over on them is actually based on a recent experience my brother had with them. Last summer both me and my brother bought a bass pro johny morris sig series combo during the spring classic sale. I also bought another identical real. after a month or so, one of mine and also my brothers reels started making a whining noise and stopped throwing very far. well, at the fist of this spring they took them back to nashville bps and they one guy told them they'd swap them out. then when they had to get a manager to approve it, they refused. then they got another manager and he approved it and sent them back to the front to do it. then they refused. they finally got some kind of product manager or something......cant remember.....and my brothers girlfriend, who had bought his for him for his bday and is one of these very stingy people lol. She was almost at tears about the whole situation, after 2 1/2 hours going back and forth with all these managers telling them yes then no. So instead of trying to go through this garbage, I was just trying to think of a diff way, because in OUR situation, they had a very crappy policy and the management didnt know what to do......one would approve then the next would come along and say they couldn't...so i was just trying to avoid a repeat. I'll just go tell them what happened, and if they dont swap it, i'll NEVER set foot in there store again and I spend approximately $8000 a year with them so I hope they'll take care of me.....If not I'll finally just try a carrot stick I guess, been curious bout them anyway.

Be honest they will more then likely replace it.  Never had a problem with our local BPS at returning or exchanging anything.

Later, :D

Ditto on the honest thing.  After you get the rod replaced, go to Home Depot and get a standard light fixture and replace the ceiling fan.  Mine made me very sad also over summer. :'(

Goodluck!

Come to think of it, the reel I just ordered and returned said it would be subject to inspection if returned after 30 days.

I guess I can try that...Ironically, I was putting the new/exchanged reel on the rod when I raised the tip of the rod, while thinking "watch the fan" and chop.....literally made me kinda sick at my stomach....

I have had that same feeling before from stuff very similar. Once I scrubbed the tip of my favorite rod on the ground as I was walking back to the car and snapped it off. Just before this happened I had the thought that I better watch out that that doesn't happen.

About a year ago now I had the rods in the boat getting ready to go fishing and sat a battery over in the boat with them. Just as it was touching down I realized it "might" hit one of my rods. I yanked it back and thought I had caught it in time to not do any damage. Not so. It crushed the blank of a spinning rod I had just put a reel on and was looking forward to seeing how it fished. I had only owned it for a month and hadn't gotten to use it more than twice before I got the reel for it I really wanted. Luckily it wasn't a total loss, just the last 6 inches of it was all. Retipped it and sold it in a yard sale later that summer. I say luckily because some kid is now using it and it only costed him $5. I paid $25, it was a cheap rod really, an Abu Garcia Harold Ensley 6' spinner. Now it's a 5'6" spinner. ;D
