Hook for drop shotting

Featured Replies

Does anyone use a #2 Gammy drop shot hook for LM Bass.  # 2 was the only size that I could find today so I picked them up.  I tried to nose hook a finesse worm but am afraid that the thickness of the plastic takes up too much room on the small hook.  Will the worm move out of the way or interfere with hooking the bass?

I use a 1/0. #2 is too small.

Dissagree. I've been using #2's for 3 seasons of drop shotting and have had no problems. I am fishing straight up & down over 25' - 40' of very clear water for smallies. Using 4# test fluoro line as well. Have taken many over 3 lbs. and a couple of 4's to boot. Also, I've recent shifted over to the "Stand Out" hooks with great success - #2's again. My goodness, 1/0's would be huge for this kid of riggging, unless you're going after LM in weeds or wood.  IMHO.

I think a #2 is too big. It's just a matter of preferance. I use #4 and #6 and I still another site.

I have 2 packs of #2 and  picked up 2 packs of 1/0 today.  I will try both and go from there.

#2 hook on a 6-10lb bass? I couldn't IMAGE even trying to do that.

I use an owner 1/0 most of the time, however I will step up to a 3/0 when shotting 6" and 7" worms

And sometimes I will flip a dropshot with a gamakatsu 2/0 superline wide gap, a 3/4oz weight, and 30lb braid

A #1 Gammie drop shot hook and 6 lb Gamma floro is all I use. I like the little extra gap in the 1, I almost never loose a fish. I landed smallies and largies up to 6 lbs with no problems.

Size 2 for the most part for me and at times 1. My fishing doesn't dictate going any bigger. I  would like the size 4s, but I have a harder time tying the palomar with the smaller hole because of my eyes.

7.5 pounds on a Mepps Black Fury 00 size ( which I don 't think they manufacture anymore  :-/ ) and 4 lb test line.  :D Have you seen the size of the hooks in them ?

I already have 10x the confidence that I had in the #2 hooks from all the positive replies.  I am going to try them first this weekend and move to the 1/0 if I miss fish(if I can catch one to begin with)

Andy

I use owner hooks.

#1 or 1/0 in the mosquito style.

or occasionally a circle hook.

No problems,  but I generally use a zoom 4.75" finesse worm.
