Pitchin help

Featured Replies

I'm learning how to pitch and was wondering if anybody had any links to videos of people pitchin.  Preferably with a baitcaster.   If you have any tips on pitchin, I would appreciate that to. Thanks!

I got a lot better at this real fast once I had wathced a video that said to never have line out pat your reel.  Sorry, I don't remember where I saw it or I would post the link.  Everyone that i've told the trick to though has found it easier.  Just practice and you will get better in no time.  I was fortunate to find this video pretty early on and then started practicing at my neighborhood pond that loaded with grass.

you always have to use thumb pressure, but just remember to lower your settings to let the line out easier.  your not putting as much power behind a pitch as you are a cast, so your lure doesnt come back lower your magnetic anti reverse. but basically lure at reel, low anti reverse and thumb your spool. you should be good with those three tips

Practice, practice, practice . . . . FRUSTRATION  :'( . . . practice, practice, practice some more.  Once you get it, you wonder why you couldn't do it in the first place.   ;)

I have always heard recommendations that you should turn off as many brakes as possible and loosen your cast control knob for pitching.  I found that for me, I use 2 brakes and loosen the cast control knob only a little.  I can pitch 40 feet or so with no backlashes using this setup.  Different strokes for different folks.

practice in your yard.  It can be tough to learn on the water and you get much more frustrated on the water.  Start with a close target (10' or somewhere around there)  and move then move the target a few feet farther etc.

Once you get that down set the target at different distances, if you pitch to the same distance every time it will be easy since you can adjust until you get it then just repeat but when you have to change on ever pitch it fine tunes your skills.

i also like the cast control knob really loose and use my thumb.

I rarely have my bait past my reel (with rod straight up), as someone stated earlier. Once you raise the rod straight up (so your bait will swing back to you), you will basically be making a Nike Swoosh with your rod tip when you pitch. The rod needs to dip down (this swings the bait away from you), then just roll it out (this gives distance to the pitch).

You can practice this in your driveway and once you get the basic motion down, you'll be pitching into a coffee cup at 30ft in no time.

That is probably the best and most simple explanation of pitching I have ever read.  Straight to the point.
