Braided Line Questions

Featured Replies

How often do you replace your old braid with new braid?

Also is there a way to break braided line when you have a snag, and left your scissors behind?

Not until I  can't cast effectively because I  don't have enough line on my reel.

Get yourself a lure retriever and if that doesn't work , use a thick glove and pull your line free.

I've gone 5 years now, dont need to change it yet. Breaking it is easy, i've got 50lb and all i do is wrap it around my arm 2 times, always have a jacket or a shirt rolled around your arm, and then walk up the bank, or to the back of the boat.

always point your rod tip at the line so it goes straight from the knot to your arm, dont clamp down on the reel and do the same, you'll brake warp the worm gear inside or the spool.

I never replace mine unless I am testing a different brand and don't like it. I re-spool when it gets shorter due to reties/break-offs which is seldom. I have some Spiderwire on my Trap rod that is at least 8 years old-it's just like the bunny rabbit ,"it keeps going, going, going-----------.

Sometimes I'll change it out for a different pound test, but I wrap it on a spare line spool for re-use.

I carry a short piece of 3/4" wooden dowell to break the line. Sometimes I'll use the net handle.

Always try to break it off instead of cutting it off as the less you leave in the water the better it is for water fowl, aquatic life and your fellow fishermen.

What if you have  dents and lumps you can feel and see in the line.  By the way it is 50lb power pro.

BassinWill301, I haven't experienced those traits in any of the lines I use. Power Pro was a reject in my testing.

If you think these dents and lumps are going to hinder your line strength , by all means change your line . You really need to have confidence in your equipment your using or you won't enjoy yourself becuase you're worried about your equipment.
