i'm not quite understanding the 22 bullet rattle, have u put a ball bearing inside and then sealed it off?
  2. actually if u go onto the stanley lures website, famous for the ribbit frog, they have the exact same rig and they call it the "buzzit".
  3. Well its my first time ever making a spinnerbait, and to be honest it takes alot of effort. Very time consuming compared to what i expected. Anyways, i've tried to copy the vision lures spinnerbaits. And i do like mine because they have unique and better quality skirts. These are proto types! I was experimenting. What do u guys think? SKIRTS: THE COMPLETED BAIT:
  4. (Hard body baits) 3:16 - armegeddon or wake bait Jerry rago - Tool bait Spro - BBZ-1 (great bait for the price) Soft body baits Huddleston Deluxe Swimbait by far. These baits are big so a good swimbait rod is needed G.Loomis makes a great line of swimbait rods. you want a round reel, i like them as they can handle the bigger fish, thicker line and bigger baits better. Personally you cant go wrong with an Abu, EXT or 6500. But for you shimano guys and Calcutta 400B, 400TE, or the best money can buy 400Te DC. Diawa Luna's are also great reels. Alot of the pro videos that i've watched and talked to some pro's and guides they say mono is the way to go, braid is stronger but not their preference, there reasoning is the stretch helps during the fight and the thickness of the mono allows you to fish the bait ALOT slower. There recomended line weight was 25lb test. I like trilene big game and maxima ultra green, 2 great TOUGH monofilaments.
  5. rainbow trout, or a kokanee. Lots of both in all the lakes around here
  6. tuff line all the way, but not XP
  7. I'm bending stainless into the loops that i am goin to expoy into the body and just connecting them. I dont like the pin idea that some baits have, seems like the looped wire would hold up better.
  8. I've gone 5 years now, dont need to change it yet. Breaking it is easy, i've got 50lb and all i do is wrap it around my arm 2 times, always have a jacket or a shirt rolled around your arm, and then walk up the bank, or to the back of the boat. always point your rod tip at the line so it goes straight from the knot to your arm, dont clamp down on the reel and do the same, you'll brake warp the worm gear inside or the spool.
  9. I'm almost the complete opposite, i use maxima and trilene, max clear, and maxima ultragreen are what i use for cranks, grubs, worms. I use trilene big game for swimbaits, u can fish them slower with mono. But i do use braid aswell, i always use braid on jigs, spinnerbaits, buzzbaits, topwater and pitching. the problem that I found with braid and topwater was that it is a dark colour. What u need is tuffline braid, the normal stuff, it is white and is just a little thicker than Tuffline XP. The good thing about normal tuffline that i love, is that it has no memory, most braids have a coating and if u bend them they stay like that, with the normal tuffline it is super limp, doesn't have a coating its just plain braid and thats the reason for it being a little thicker, to prevent it from abrasion, it's still way thinner than mono of the same test, and i cant cut it with scissors or snips, need a blade. I also find braid if used alot in ceramick guides creates grooves that will slice any line.
  10. Looks pretty good, only concerns are short strikes, and covering the eye of the hook. U have alot of material hanging in the back, and u wrapped to far up, u should also bring the material to the back of the eyes it allows for more material and better positioning of the hook on the fly
  11. Over the past 3 days i've been carving, sanding, and remaking a swimbait. All i have to do now is connect the pieces together, add weight, add the lip, and paint. Right now without the weights and lip it weighs almost an ounce, its made out of white pine, it doesn't float as high as balsa and it weighs more, I didn't want to have to add to much weight to the bait. I'm making it for my godfather, he's doin a pike and laketrout trip and a swim bait would do him nicely. When i'm done, i'll hopefully be able to get some pics and post the results. Can't wait.
  12. easiest thing for belly weights is pencil lead, it fits right in the hole snug, i have a little bit of epoxy in the bottom, and then wood filler on top, clear coat, then paint, then 3 more clear coats.
  13. just get a fine toothed file, doesn't need to be made for the purpose of sharpening hooks.
  14. 45 rubbers a month free, demo worms
  15. fish bends in the river, where the river takes a 90 degree turn, then fish in the slack water, in that calm water the silt falls to the bottom faster and gives the fish better visibility and oxygen levels, and its easier for them to swim, the bait fish will be there aswell Trust me, i grew up fishing for salmon, trout and steelhead
  16. I've got 15lb seagar, stronger and clearer than others that i've seen or tested
  17. position of the hook on the bait, thickness of the hook, hook design, and hook placement on the buzzbait. Hook position- if u hold your buzzbait so the frame is horizontal and straight across if the hook is at all arced up or angled toward the sky then thats probably why. See when the hook lays flat and a bass engulfs the bait he get pricked before u set the hook, but if its angles because the hook point is pointing downward the bass has the hook in its mouth and doesn't get hooked, this also means u need to set the hook alot harder. Hook thickness- I pour my own buzbaits and i only use gamikatsu hooks, reason being they are razor sharp out of the bag, strong as u can get, but the not super thick, that being said they aren't soft wire hooks that would bend out, other companies that are used of buzzbaits that i've seen are mustads, eagleclaws, and owners. Mustads and EagleClaws are super strong, and relatively sharp, but their downfall is they are as thick as my thumb. Owners on the other hand rival the gamikastu's, they are also awsome hooks. If a hook is to thick or the barb WAY TO BIG for the size of the hook, it takes so much more foce to get it in the fish, and they are a hassle to get out of a fish, it doesn't matter to a fish 6lbs+ but when u get a 2lber and ur ripping at its jaw to get the big hook out its not that great for the fish. Hook design- The different hook designs that are usually on buzzbaits are o'shaunessy bends and round bends, the shaunessies are alright, i dont like them because the notch or sharp bend is up near the hook point so the fish holds there when being played and only has that little bit of hook to toss around and throw, where if u look at the round bend the fish sits right in the middle of it, thats alot more hook for the fish to fling, or push out of its mouth, and to acomplish that it needs to basically turn the bait 180 degrees, which cant be acomplished if the angler keeps a tight line. One more thing on design, offset hooks, best invention since the begining of time. Most hooks if look at from the back are straight all the way nothing is out of line, and they work ok, and i use them, but if i can i'll use a offset hook anyday. they way they are designed is the point is angles in one direction or the other away from the shank on a slight angle, so when u set the hook the hoook goes in on and angle and cant be pulled straight out, u need to twist and pull, add a bard to that design and its the ultimate, the offset only works with single hooks, so dont wreck your trebles. If u dont have offset hooks here's how u do now, take your hook and place it in one hand, take a pair of pliers and grab the hook down near the bend of the hook, so you're grabbing both the main shank and the hook point, not the point itself but the little bit of shank after the bend before the point, then give the main shank a little bend to the left or the right, and boom their is your new offset hook. They slide in easy aswell so a normal hookset will do you just fine. Example: Hook placement- The key to a solid hit and hookset and just a nipped fish, bite area. The area from the hook point to the end of the the wire shaft where the prop is spinning. That is the bite gap, if that is to small or in one way or another not sitting right u have a bad bait. My favourite bait that i have replicated are the new longshank buzzbait and spinnerbaits, they are awsome, the designers and producers deserve an award they are the best baits i've seen, snagproof and hold on to fish in crazy ways, they acheived the good things about a trailer hook, and eliminated its downfalls, love their baits. They have big bite areas, AWSOME quality hooks, they dont snag up EVER, and they hook fish in big ways. Photo's of great, good/average, bad buzzbaits Great buzzbait Average/good Bad My opinions on the baits in the photos are not to make the company anybetter or any worse, they are based on opinion on quality and design of the bait.
  18. I use a nail head and just touch the surface film and just press or roll it on, i put the eyes after the paint is dry and then clear coat them
  19. i'm about as northwest as it gets in the bass category, Vancouver BC Canada.
  20. 6'6 fenwick elite rod, abugarcia revo reel, 12lb mono, or 25lb braid.
  21. stick to the st.criox series, i have 5 of them and once u buy a new rod of a different make u realize the difference, returned 3 rods and went and bought a st.criox. Love the rods i own. Just not enough reels, LOLZ Only exception to the st.criox only rule are fenwicks, especially the old canadian made ones, grew up with those, i own 4. The new elite tech look awsome, but made in asia, i trust my old HMX's over any other crank and topwater rod
  22. I personally have used the Max pro, black and both the Revo S and SX on the water. The max black and revo S are both good reels in general, i would use them if i didn't have other abugarcia reels already, i am planning to make a couple more purchaces soon. The Max pro is super nice, casts a mile and is smooth as any other baitcaster that i've used. U can cast light and heavy baits with no problem and can torke fish out of cover easy, believe me, the first fish i hooked on the reel was a 3lber that brought in another 5lbs of milfoil and what ever other weed growth it could wrap around. As for the SX i only got a dozen casts after my friend wanted it back so i couldn't really tell u much about it, another great abu reel of course though.
  23. Here's the line of Abu Revo reels that u can buy. Inshore Premier Revo S Revo SC Revo STX Revo SX The new Abu Max's are awsome, tested the black and the pro, want to see the silver. Quality they go good to great, Black, Silver, Pro. Black Silver Pro
  24. I had an excess of spin'n glows in the larger sizes so i had an idea, and it worked. I rigged up a new lure that should work in a few weeks, when the weather warms up. Its on an inline shaft, has 2 brass beads, one above the spin'n glow and one bellow it, they act as weights and bearings so the spin'n glow can spin smoothly. The spin'n glow has stiff mylar wings so they displace good amounts of water, i made 2 of each, green, orange, and red. Taking them to the pond in about an hour to see if they'll work like i planned, will report back soon with the results, they looked good in the bathtub.
  25. Welcome to the forum, i either tie ring in the middle of the split ring where the wires over lap, or remove the split ring all together, i dont liek snaps, they are just to much hardware on the bait. Just like the old saying "keep it simple stupid"
