Braided Line & Rod Flex Question

Featured Replies

Just wondering what you guys think.

If I use braided line should the rod flex I use be softer.  Let's say that I should be using a medium action rod instead of medium heavy since braid does not have any stretch.

I know it depends on what application I'll be using.  Let's say I'm using it for jigs, should I use med action or stick w/ a MH or heavy action?  I guess this would be also for spinnerbaits.

I think w/ mono or flouro lines you would go heavier on the action, since there is a little give, right?

You really shouldn't change much in the beginning. Back your drag off a little and fish away.

The softer tip rod is going to help for all fishing. Even very light jigs you can see the rod flex everytime you move your bait.

Of course when the rod over flexses or will not flex your reaction should be..............

Pick rods that still have some back bone..........I use Clarus.

your on the right track. I've been using nothing but braid for 14 years, and yes, I do use a slightly softer rod..... and when given the choice, a little slower also (more bend over the whole rod, instead of just right at the tip).

But as Garnet said, you might be best off just getting used to using braid, first. Then you can adjust things like your rod actions later, judging by your own personal experiences.

Peace,

Fish

PS, Going to braid was the best fishing decision I have ever made, in 40 years.

Here your talking about the rods back bone...The POWER RATING (med, med-hvy, etc.) on the rod would be your personal preference. The TIP ACTION (mod, mod-fast, etc) is the important factor using braided line along with the drag setup.

Just my .02¢

Fish Chris,

Now your talking parabolic....

Good Luck & Tight Lines!!!!
