Quantum Accurist Disassemble

Featured Replies

Trying to clean and lube my Accurist CX and can't get the right cover off, is there a trick? I've removed all three screws as well as handle, drag, etc... and nothing!? Do I just need to pry ever so gently? :-[ or is there a screw I'm missing? any help will be appreciated!!!

There is a small black thumb release on the bottom of the side plate. Push it towards the center of the reel and twist the side plate down.  ;)

Edit: do this at the same time (push and twist)

Thanks for the response reelmech but I was referring to the handle side. This is the screw that I was missing! Sorry for the crappy cell phone picture. Hopefully this can help someone in the future.

Apparantley these reels come from the factory insufficiently lubricated. I bought the reel new and my first few outings noticed a minor "grinding" noise and feel... I believe the noise was coming from the guide gears... put some grease on all the gears and now the reel is amazing! it's amazing what a little maintenance can do. (just didn't think I needed to do it right out of the box?!) :-/

There is another screw from the brake side of the frame that must be removed, you have to remove the brake side cover and the spool to access it.

FLBassMan,

Daiwa® is another mfg. that uses that very same style of screw to soft hold the nose piece and crank-side plate until you get the plate screws in place.

Thanks for the kind words on the rods.... ;)
