Revo S or Revo SC

Featured Replies

I recently purchased purchased a 6'6" heavy casting rod for throwing my frog baits and jigs.  I can't decide on what reel to go with.  It's going to be a Revo no matter what, but I was wanting everyone's opinions on whether to go high speed or not? Thanks

quite a few people like the high speed reels for the applications you mentioned but its pretty much a preference thing. I dont own a high speed reel but would imagine it easier to slow down your pace with one of those than to try and speed up a lower ratio.

With frogs I don't think 6.4:1 or 7.1:1 makes any practical difference. The Revo S has a 24lb drag, though, and the SC has an 18 lb drag. That may make a difference. It's easier to get, say, 14lbs on the Revo S than on the SC. You have to crank them both down, but you're really tightening it down on the SC. So I would pick the S for that application. I usually set my drag heavier when I'm fishing frogs.

For frogs, you want a high speed reel, the SC by far.

I also prefer High Speed for jigs too, so I have a HS reel on my frog/jig rod.

You also might want to consider that the Revo S has a centrifugal brake, the SC has a magnetic brake (externally adjustable) and is only available in RH.

I have the SC and would recommend it.  I use mine for fishing worms and Senkos.
