Recommendation For A Cheap Rod/Reel Combo

Featured Replies

Hey, I have a friend who is just getting into fishing. Hes looking to buy a cheap rod/reel combo for 30-35bucks, any suggestions? He will primarily use it for trout season/bass. Links would be appreciated. Thanks.

Go to wal-mart and look for something made by Abu Garcia or Shimano in the price range :)  Avoid the cheaper brands such as Shakespeare.

go to wal-hell and buy something that shakespeare makes. i got an axiom combo(shakespeare brand)a few years ago before started sleeping with the bait monkey, and still have cought more fish with it than any other combo i have. i got some fairly expensive stuff but i think the fish see this cheap setup and feel sorry for me and bite my lines 8-)

If you send him to Wally World, the Pinnacle's cannot be fully serviced to the best of my knowledge. I would look at the Abu Max's before Shakespeare or Pinnacle.

Also, Gander Mountain reels appear to be Pinnacle.

I am only referring to the Pinnacle Solene, LP100 and similar with the mag adjustment directly in line with the spool shaft. Other models may be serviceable.
