Some time ago there were posts stating that "any silicone spray would do" and would be significantly cheaper than Reel Magic or KVD Line & Lure. Well, the problem is that the silicone sprays smell like a petroleum product and the smell lasts a loooooooong time!

KVD Line Conditioner is a sponsor and has developed a unique formula that works very well. The conditioner actually bonds with the line. Look into this, I think you will be impressed.

BTW, If you buy the product, go ahead and spray your filler spools. When adding new line, either run it through a cloth sprayed with KVD or spray the conditioner on periodically (10 turns). KVD Line & Lure should be used before fishing, ideally the night before so there is time for the bonding to set-up.

I like it, you will, too!

I have used KVD's spray for a couple of years now, and I really like it.  It does really seem to help with the managablity of the line, less memory, which helps reduce backlash.  I put it on when spooling, and then once before I go out fishing, once while fishing, and then again when I get done.

I think RW mentioned this one time and I started doing it as well, but put it on when the spool is full, then after you make a really long cast, put some on again so you get the conditioner on the line further down on the spool.

I have been using the KVD for about a year. There is no comparison of what it does for line versus one of the silicone products. This is especially important to me since my "light" line is 14# test copoly and my heavy line is 20# mono (other than braid). My lake has very heavy cover so I need Heavy line. Without the KVD I was changing line very often, mostly due to memory. With KVD, I spray my lines before I load the rigs in the boat and they are good to go by the time I get to the lake. Also, I now change lines when it gets low on the spool due to retieing, breakoff and such.

You would be surprised how long a bottle last. I treat 6-7 rigs, 3-4 days a week and a bottle last me 4 months. I also treat new line as I spool it up.

I also found the best way to get it is to order direct and get either the 2 bottle or for bottle specials for $15.95 and $24.95 respectively.

I also have no skin in this deal, this is just my experience/opinion.

I had heard of KVD line conditioner, but at 2.75 $ a bottle I wanted to see if silicone spray was a good option.  I had heard rumor about silicone spray and I was reading one of KVDs books (strategies maybe?).  In there he talked on how he uses silicone spray on all of his lines.  Obviously this was before he helped develop his own line conditioner.  I know in that we in the fishing world understand that you get what you pay for.  I also know there aren't to many of us that would pay 8$ where 3 $ would do fine extending the life of mono and flouro.

"Well, the problem is that the silicone sprays smell like a petroleum product and the smell lasts a loooooooong time!"   RW

I can imagine that there is quite a smell.  I don't want to open up an already heavily debated topic as to whether fish can smell petroleum or oil based scents.  I'm not really convinced one way or another.  I do know that I don't like having unnatural smells on my fishing lures; i.e. sunscreen, gasoline, bug spray me.

So after reading the posts and the information from the line and lure website, the kicker for me is going to be that the line and lure conditioner actually bonds to the line instead of coating it.  Not smelling like petroleum and gumming up my gear is a plus too.  Maybe Reel Mech will see this one and respond or I'll send him a PM.  Thanks gang, I'm sure I won't be disappointed.

There was a speaker at the BR dinner in Guntersville that put on a demo for the KVD Line & Lure conditioner. The whole time he was talking I'm thinking to myself, "Yeah right, I'm not putting this stuff on my JDM reels." My mind was soon changed very quickly after Fluke sprayed a little in my hand. If I had a blindfold on, I would have thought he sprayed just water in my hand. This stuff is not greasy at all. After it dried it was not greasy or oily. I have always wanted to try some sort of line conditioner but I value my reels too much to put some petroleum based product all over the spool. The KVD Line & Lure conditioner is water based. It was the very thing I have been looking for.

Wow water based?  Very cool.    ;)

I threw some on all my reels last night and my sons spinning reel as well. Last night he had a lot of problems with 6lb Yozuri Ultra Soft springing off the spool (yes I put the line on correctly and tight). This stuff is very nice and like others have said....it's not sticky at all. Can't wait to see the results this weekend.

You might have too much line spooled up. Leave a 1/8" margin to the lip of the spool.

;)

It was pretty close to an 1/8 but I did remove some just to be sure. Probably didn't help that I spooled up 15 minutes before we fished.  ;D

Hey All,

Thanks for your great comments and open minds about KVD Line & Lure Conditioner. We anglers are constantly bombarded with new products that claim to be the newest and the best. It makes one get very skeptical to most everything. I hope all the positive comments about Line & Lure are starting to convince most of you. We know that by giving Line & Lure a fair try, you will see the value the product offers. As KVD, Bill Dance and many others have stated, just the reduced occurrence of backlash and blow-outs you get using L&L could mean the difference between just another tournament and a money finish or the fish of a lifetime. Heck the fact that line last so much longer when treated is enough motivation for the crew I hang around with. The point is that Line & Lure will make just about any fisherman a more accurate, confident caster.

Would those of you that would like to sample Line & Lure Conditioner be willing to pay $1.00 for a 1ounce bottle (1/4 of a full size bottle) to cover postage? If so, I will set up such an offer.

We are very proud of the new Line & Lure boat wrap now plying the waters at Lake Fork, TX. This new 520 Ranger belongs to James Caldemeyer at officiallakeforktrophybass.com. He's one great guy and a master guide on the lake. If you're ever on Lake Fork make sure you look him up.

Rob--I am already sold on the L&L, I order 4 bottles at a time, but would probably order 20 of the 1 oz bottles!  Set it up---lol.
