Making rod and reel, actually all equipment suggestions

Featured Replies

Hey Fellas; Would not it be refreshing if people were to refrain from suggesting, especially to newbes, equipment that they have never even used. It amazes me how many fellas either talk up or talk down products they have never used. Just wondering if this gets tio some of you also :-/

Yes!   This should probably be a sticky.  You can also include the posts that state "I just bought X rod or reel...what do you think about it?"  What does it matter?!  Are you going to sell it if we don't approve?!

Its does me makes me wonder if 3/4 of our members aint PRO STAFF for a certain manufacturer ;D  But then again prob only a 1/4 actully post and ask questions .back on topic if a person comes in fresh and new to fishing and ask should i use spinning or baitcasting i see this a lot ...................  you should try both the HSIMAON ;) or DWAIA :( will be the best MAKE sure you spend at least 200 bucks or you aint getting much :)

Muddy,  You hit the nail on the head!  A few weeks ago a guy asked if anyone liked the KVD, Rick Clunn or Extreme reels because he was concidering spending $80 on a reel.  I responded because I had experience with all three.  The next post a guy sayes that he should buy a Shimano reel for $90.  Sometimes I think that this section should be renamed the Fishing Rods, Shimano Reels, leaders and knots section

I couldnt agree with you more muddy b/c it only miss leads the readers some of which have only us to advise them we should only Recommend stuff  we have actually own or have used it would only benfit the readers only seems fair to them are we not right  :-?

I don't know about that...

I do have two Shimano Core's I purchased recently and love them, but I feel the Daiwa Steez represents the pinnacle of bass fishing instraments.  IMHO...Shimano has remained somewhat idle in recent innovation while Daiwa has leaped forward.   I own and utilize both, but I think this gives me the right to comment.  This is a whole different bag of worms!

I don't know about that...while there are plenty of folks around here that recommend Shimano, I think you will find an equal number of anglers that prefer Diawa ;):( 8-)

Who prefers Daiwa?

Yeah, it really gets to me, especially the one's recommending products from hear-say instead of first hand experience.

Yeah buddy...Daiwa is bringin' sexy back!

I think even RW will admit more people are going with Daiwa than ever before.  Don't think Shimano doesn't see this...next year should be interesting!

You know what Muddy, I still feel the same way I have always felt. All joking aside, use what you like and are comfortable with, don't worry about what anyone else thinks. There is good and bad in all makes and models.

With that said, I'm still not buying any Shimanos.  LOL!!  J/K

I totally agree...I didn't ask anyone's permission; I just use the reels that I trust.  Reels have the least to do with one's fishing I believe.  Granted there are a few reels that make a man want to get it on!

100% agree with that. After searching all over the place I am back to basically the sme stuff I have always used. I am talking when a new guy, especially in a limited $ slot asks for a suggestion, and all the experts come out of the woodwork. Most do answer the question, I have seen RW on more than one occasion, suggest a bass pro combo. It is when you know someone didnt ever use something, like a certain well know self proclaimed tackle expert always knocks Pflueger reels and never once aswered a question about his own experience using them.

or conversley an overnight expert pushing something he obviously never used or has used other products he is comparing them to

Nobody should be knockin' Pflueger!  I don't own any of their baitcasters but I've taken the time to really check out their 08 models and most are d**n impressive.  If I didn't already have my reels bought I definitely would consider a new Pflueger.

I think what bugs me most is when a guy actually sets his budget on a reel/rod purchase and everybody starts recommending stuff that costs more.  It starts out with a $20 increase and within a few posts people are telling him to spend 2-3 times what his budget is.

Well, I don't have access to any actual numbers, but I suspect the biggest leap in sales has been Abu Garcia, not Daiwa. The Revo(lution) is really several completely different reels marketed under the "Revo" umbrella. The question remains, How will they hold up over time?

The cool part about that is you'll now be one of the group trying to find out. 8-)

People around here have ABU's they use year in and year out that are older than Shimano is a company  ;D

Sexy was never gone, it stares at me in the mirror every day.

AHHH You better check that : IT's a window you mook

fortunately or unfortunately its the nature of the beast... a lot of folks are very PRO whatever... me I like Shimano over anything else but that is my preference. I have owned others but just always preferred this brand. If something falls in the price point that someone is asking about I will most certainly suggest it.. but I won't put anything down either... everyone want to put their "belly button" into the fray.. its just the nature of the beast. While I don't agree with the bashing... some folks have have thier minds set up...

I do wish I had someone to suggest to me what to get when I first started out fishing... would have saves me a lot of money in the long run... by all means I don't think someone should start out with an MG50 and a G-LOOMIS... but I also would recommend someone spends a little more and got at least GOOD entry level equipment ie: a citica and a nice BPS rod... the reason for the brand name is becasue a lot of the big retailers will swich manufacturers from time to time and its hard to get work done on them after a period of time

anyways... just my .02c worth ;)

Buy what you can afford and don't try to force your favorites down other peoples throats.
