4 reels, 4 rods...which with which?

Featured Replies

I have four reels and four rods listed below.  Pair the reel with the rod you think it's best suited to.  I've given short descriptions of what each rod will mainly be use for.

Loomis CBR 843 - Small/medium Crankbaits

Loomis CBR 906c - Ripping Traps through grass

Loomis MBR 844c - Texas Rig/Jigs

Shimano Crucial 7'11" - Flipping Stick

Shimano Curado DHSV 7:1

Shimano Curado DHSV 7:1

Shimano Citica 100DSV 6.2:1

Abu Garcia Revo STX 6.4:1

this is what i would do

citica 100 due to size will be comfy with a flippin stick

stx with mbr844c cause u dont need a fast gear ratio while jigging

curados with the cbrs cause me personally i like fast reels for cranks but if u want to slow down just reel slower ;)

Why don't you just fish with them and figure it out for yourself? You are the one who will be using them, I am sure by trial and error you can figure it out better than someone can tell you

Put your slow reels on your crankbait and Jig/worm rod.  Put the fast ones on the trap and pitching rods.

You want a winch like reel for cranks and plus the slower speed will help you slow your retrieve slightly.  The jig/worm rod doesn't really matter as far as reel IMHO.

You want a fast retrieve for burning traps and for retrieving your bait after a bad or unsuccessful pitch.

Just one man's opinion.

Citica with crankin rod

each Shimano Curado DHSV 7:1 with other 2 loomis rods

and use the winch revo stx with the flipping stick

thats how i would pair them

well heres what i think. your curado's are over 9oz the remaining reels are between 8.6 and 7.4 ounces. the curado will feels better i think with the flipping stick do to the weight balance itself. plus when flipping i only use a 7.1 reel to pull them out of cover as fast as i can. the citica 100 (7.4oz) will be nice on the loomis rod do to the fact that loomis is a very light rod youo dont need alot of line to pitch jigs or plastics and can fit enough 15-17# flouro to do that with(same reel i use on my worm/jig rod but a kistler mg). ripping traps i would think a nother curado and the revo for cranks. just my opinion hope it helps. i myslef ,love the new revos, in fact any of my kistlers im putting on revos do to the weight and compact size much easier to keep a finger on the exposed blank.

If you're using the flipping stick for fishing weeds and heavy cover, DEFINITELY the Revo belongs on the flipping stick. That extra beefy drag won't slip while horsing in fish from cover.

I don't know about the Crucial 7'11 flipping stick, as I've never held it, BUT the majority of flippin sticks I've held are noticeably tip so I'd also take into consideration which balances best.

But then again, I like the 7:1 high speeds for jigs in heavy cover, and I throw frogs on my flipping stick as well. So that makes it a tough choice!
