Bass Pro Shop Reels

Featured Replies

I was told by a Bass Pro associate that the company that makes Bass Pro Shop reels is......Bass Pro Shops.  He said that Bass Pro opened a factory in China and make their own reels.  Maybe it's true,  maybe it's not.  Maybe that's the line they've been instructed to give.  Has anybody heard this?

I heard they were made by aboriginies in the Austrailian back woods

I've heard that, too.  But no one can verify it, because their land is off-limits to outsiders.

I had not heard this before. However, I have been told by someone at Shakespeare that the BPS reels are actually Pflueger reels that have been private labeled for BPS. So BPS reels = Pflueger reels.

Yes I 've heard such a thing by one of the BPS forum administrators when I commented about the foggy origin of BPS reels.

The bottom line is: the origin of BPS reels is still foggy.

But they just look too close to Pfleuger reels to deny a certain familiy relationship.  ;)

Don 't know why is it so hard for them to tell who makes their reels, I see nothing bad nor denigrationg in recognizing who makes your house brand products.

Many Cabela 's reels have Daiwa or Abu written all over them.

Maybe it's the other way around.  Bass Pro makes the Pflueger reels. ;)

From what i have heard, that bps bought out pflueger.  I know that bps, pflueger, and browning are all made in the same plant.  my 2 cents

I can tell you that without question, BPS did not buy out Pflueger.

The top-end BPS baitcaster I have seen are marked made in Korea.  My JM Elite is made in Korea.

JT, where is your newest Patriarch made?

When you compare Pflueger and BPS reels the similarities are so obvious I can't imagine that they aren't made by Pflueger. The die cast molds seem to be identical and it would be very costly for a company to duplicate the molds.

Good for Pflueger, good for BPS and good for the fishermen.

I was told by the fishing manager at the BPS where I work that Pflueger has been making BPS reels for some time but Johnny Morris bought out Laker Tackle and will be making them in the future. I'm not stating this as fact, just repeating what I was told................Al

I love both the Extreme and Pro Qualifier Bait Casters. I really don't care who or where they are made, even if it's in New Jersey

Silstar is the originator/manufacturer of Pflueger/Shakespeare, Pinnacle, and BPS reels in the North American market. They also make reels for many companies in Europe.
