Technique specific rods

Featured Replies

What exactly is the difference between these and normal rods of the same length and action take the Gloomis rods for example. They have a crankbait rod that is 7' M action and then a normal GLX of the same length and action. Im not just talking about Gloomis but any company with technique specific rods

They match their names and actions to what everybody says is generally acceptable for the given action or technique. No real difference other you are told what to use that rod for. Kinda a way to sell you a rod for each tecnique and pay alot more than you need to. I have rods I use for a specific technique but not because they say so.

Technique specific rods are for those that "collect" equipment. Once past the basic "needs", some search for the "perfect rod" for a particular presentation.

Technique specific rods are for people who don't know which rod to buy for which technique so some rods companies simply did the research for them.

I have a Castaway rod that I use for Texas Rigs even though it says on the rod for spinner baits; I have 2 BPS rods that say general purpose that I use for spinner baits & Rat-L-Traps.

Like was previously stated, technique specific rods are just made with a little different power and action, but you by no means have to use a rod that says "crankbait" on the side strictly for crankbaits or any other type.  I use technique specific rods for techniques they are not stated to be intended for.  It is just a matter of comfort and how you feel with a certain rod, while fishing with a certain lure.

Many companies put what techniques are best suited for each rod.

Dobyns and Powell rods do this.
