Patriarch vs. Revo STX

Featured Replies

I am interested in purchasing another bait caster. I am torn between the Patriarch and Revo StX. All thoughts appreciated. Thanks.

i have both and they are my 2 favorites.  both are great and i don't know if i could pick one over the other.  you will be extremely happy with either one.

I don't know much about the Patriarch, but I love my STX.

I think it depends what you're going to use the rod for. I got my STX because of the 24lbs of drag. I use it for HEAVY HEAVY cover fishing in weeds and tullys, so it was a huge buying point for me.

The truth is probably that they are so close that it could comes down to which one you think is prettiest.   So...

Whichever one has a LH version  ;D

I've never fished a Patriarch and being that I own several STX's....I'll probably never need to fish a Patriarch.

next problem...I own a revo sx-hs. If i decide on the stx am I not going to want to use the sx anymore??? Is there that much of a noticable difference? If so, Patriarch it is...haha

No need to stop using your SX-HS.  I have two of all the Revos - except the Premier, and I use them all.

The Revo SX is the only one out of the Revo lineup that I dont own multiples of. I can't figure out what it is about it but I can't cast it without getting a backlash....and I've been throwing baitcast reels for 20+ years. The STX, in my mind, is the King of all Revo's.....even over the Premier.

more opinions please...keep em coming.

I think that both companies are owned by the same conglomerate.  If you study photos of both reels you see so many common points, both statistically mechanically and cosmetic.  I think both reels are actually the same.  Probably come from the same factory and get different final touches just like a Mercury and a Ford are absolutely the same vehicle.

for that very reason, I'd surely go with the STX.

Stick with the same reel, that way when you set one rod and reel down, you pick up another that feels the exact same. Takes no adjusting or anything.

Could be. I think now that Pflueger and Abu Garcia are now both owned by Pure Fishing, Pure Fishing may have cut their expenses by elimating different manufacturers. The Patriach may be the first manifestation of this. I haven't looked inside a Patriarch and haven't seen the brake, but it does look superficially like the Revo.

I suspect now we will see a separation of Pflueger and BPS similarities. I think BPS will now go its way, and Pflueger may take the path of Abu Garcia.
