  1. sweet fish! way to go
  2. I don't disagree at all but just found it interesting that there are no jigs or lipped crankbaits on this list. I don't really fish either of those 2 but thought they were much more of a "must have" for everyone else. For Glenn, who obviously knows his stuff, to not have either on his list makes me feel a little better.
  3. would you all recommend a medium heavy or a heavy power rod?
  4. I use spinning gear. 6'6" mh rod and 6# yozuri ultra soft. Never used a swivel and have never had any problems with line twist
  5. Man, that video made me smile! There's nothing like the excitement of a child. You're doing a great job spending time with him doing something you both enjoy.
  6. I agree with what most others have said. I have both and use them for weightless, t-rigged senkos and can't really tell a difference between the two. Knowing what I know now, I would just stick with the Avid and save the extra money but you won't be unhappy with either.
  7. I just heard from a very reliable source that this is not true.
  8. I've got avids, legend tournaments and a legend elite and there is not a huge difference in sensitivity from the avid on up. The avid, in my opinion, is the best value of the st. croix rods.
  9. I love your answer. I've actually been a die hard shimano man too but I've got a hook up at pflueger so I'm giving this a try.
  10. I just ordered a brand new Pflueger Patriarch spinning reel. Currently I've got a Stradic 2500 on my Loomis GLX BSR803. My backup rod is an St. Croix Avid. Should I put the new pflueger on my loomis for my main setup or on my backup rod? I know this is a great problem to have I'm just wondering what everybody thinks!
  11. Went to Lake Brittle. I was looking for a smaller lake and this one looked about right. About 55 degrees and windy. Threw a 3/8 oz spinnerbait w/ white blades for about an hour and a half. Not one bite. Switched to a senko for the next hour. Nothing. I had fun trying. That's why they call it fishing... Thanks for all the replies
  12. Im staying near George Mason University and I brought my rod and tackle. Are there any public ponds or small lakes that I can shore fish around?
  13. you might want to consider going to do a little offshore fishing out of ocean isle area - late fall fishing can be really good depending on water temperature. You can catch king mackeral, spanish mackeral, mahi mahi trolling or could catch grouper, sea bass, snapper, etc by bottom fishing. guide for a day could run around $150 - $400 depending on who you get but that would be for just you and any guests you would want to fish with. it's different from bass fishing but a ton of fun. I have a boat down in that area and have been getting more and more into this type of fishing for the past few years. good luck
  14. i'm jealous!! that's a dream day! congrats
  15. i didn't want to hijack the other shakey head worm thread by asking this question - what size shakey head jig heads are best for largemouth fishing?
  16. well how did you do? i live close to lake norman but have never fished it so i couldn't have given you any help but i'm just reading your post monday morning so i couldn't have helped any way! i'd be interested in what you learned while there though.
  17. good followup question - what sizes in xrap and pointers should we start with?
  18. ok - i've read you guys talking a lot about using these suspending jerk baits so i went out and bought a lucky craft pointer. problem is i have absolutely no idea how to fishi it!! can you all explain the technique to me? thanks in advance!!
  19. i have one and love it. you should definitely get it.
  20. i've only used it twice. it really is pretty much brand new. i'm not in any hurry to sell it - especially for that price but i'll help you out. it's not going anywhere - if you want to wait until after spring break that's fine.
  21. if you are interested i'll really hook you up with a good deal. since you are new here and want to learn i'll make you this offer. I've got a 6'6" st. croix avid medium power/fast action with a curado 100d on it that i'll sell you for $150 plus the shipping. both rod and reel are basically brand new. i never use them becuase i have so many others i like more. I don't know how much shipping will be to cali - i live in nc but probably something like $25. Let me know if you are interested.
  22. after years of constantly "upgrading" my rods and reels i've finally come to the point that i'm content with what i have!!!! I still look at the flea market everyday but I'm not really out buying up new stuff to try all the time! anybody else gotten to this point?
  23. ww2farmer pretty much summed up my feelings on the avid vs. legend tourney rods. I own several of each and while I love my LT's I don't think there is a huge difference in sensitivity or "fishability" when going from LT's to the avids. I actually think that for the money the Avid is the best buy out there. Just my opinion.
  24. what is everybody's go to color(s) for jig and trailer?
