I have one of dicks quantum specials - the quantum inferno spinning reel and i am not very happy with it. it's loud and not smooth. jmho

higher end gear is for us to enjoy and has little to do with the fish - however there are advantages which are too many to list of owning and fishing with higher end gear.

y'all are making this an easy choice!! i've never owned a daiwa. :-[

I just got a new St. Croix Legend Tourney 6'6" MHF casting rod. I want to use this rod for mainly jigs. I would like to put a $200 - $250 reel with it. Any suggestions?

Shakespeare (Pflueger, All Star, Shakespeare, Cajun, X Tools, Penn and Ugly Stick) was purchased by Jarden Corporation. Shortly before that purchase, Jarden Corp purchased Pure Fishing and all of their brands (Abu Garcia, Berkley, Stren, Trilene, Spider, Johnson, Fenwick, etc). Jarden Corp also owns the following brands (and then some). Coleman (coolers, etc) Rawlings (baseball equipment) Crock Pot Mr. Coffee Health O Meter First Alert and Many Many more JT Bagwell what do you all think this will mean for the brands mentioned? i'm just getting into and excited about pflueger and abu garcia reels in particular and would hate to see major changes with these brands.

Did anyone else take advantage of the $89 pflueger president at bass pro today? I got one and am pumped about getting it out on the water.

are the falcon cara's that good? i was looking at them today at gander mountain...for those of you that have them - what are they comparable to?

Thanks Ronnie - but i haven't been able to get all the info that i need from their site...i don't understate if BCR stands for baitcasting rod or SJR has some meaning. what is BSR? What is MBR? SMR? etc...

Can you all help me understand - what do all the prefixes mean - MBR, BCR, etc. I am very interested in learning about G loomis rods.

I bought 2 of these used and am not really a fan. Compared to my Revo STX, Curado 201D they aren't even in the same league. Is this assesment accurate or is it just me? I'm curious to hear others feedback because I may sell them. Thanks,

thanks for all the good advice guys...my local dicks has some of last years avids still for $99 so i think i'll get store credit for the combo and pickup another avid.

Dad got me this combo from Dick's for my birthday...anybody ever had one? I'm trying to decide whether to take it back and pick something out that i really want or keep it. suggestions???

boy do you have a lot of options in the price range that you mentioned. in the lower end of your range i would recommend a st. croix avid paired with a shimano stradic. i have a 6'6" mf avid with a 2500 stradic that i use for soft plastics and i love it. good luck.

I'd be all over that if I could find one. I saw Burley's post about that rod and that thing is SWEET!!! What local shop was it that he got it from? Could I call in an order and have it shipped to me?

my local dicks still have some of the older avids for $99. Should I go that route? What does everybody think?
