  1. am i better off? i know that the curado is a better reel than the citica - so here's the story.... i ordered a citica 201 D from a major retailer recently. I paid $95.97 for it free shipping...Well the package came via ups today and when i opened the box there was a brand new curado 201 DPV!!!!!! the only reason i'm asking the question is because i don't know what the DPV model is??? can you all shed some light on this? also, the reel has a 5.0:1 gear ratio. What do y'all think?
  2. I've never had much luck with crankbaits - but i keep reading about pro's using this or that crankbait and tons of people on this forum seem to love them...i guess my question is what are some good ones to start trying and what should i be doing with them? Right now i fish cover (trees, stumps, etc) much more than structure (points, ledges, etc) and i mostly throw soft plastics, jig & pig, and spinnerbaits. I have heard people say to throw cranks into laydowns and bump them off the wood, but is there more to it than that??? I want to catch more fish and am willing to learn new techniques. Can you all help?
  3. I've seen in older posts a reference to a "flea market" section of this site. Where is it???

Way to go!!!!! You are a good dad for taking your kids fishing.
  5. anybody have or heard of the quantum inferno spinning reel? they have a couple at my local dicks that have been marked down from $99 to $39. Are they any good?
  6. I have the same avid you have (AS66MF) and I put a stradic 2500FH on it and LOVE IT. I would go with the stradic. I was wrestling with the same decision you are right now and then I found the stradic on sale at dick sporting goods for $99 - that made my decision easier for me. I don't think you can go wrong with any of the reels that you mentioned - they are all good reels but from experience with the stradic I would recommend it. Good luck.
  7. you said it RW...no shipping, no tax on this promotion - i just ordered one and the total for the order was $95.97!! The waiting begins......

I'm getting one today!
  9. RW - I just ordered a 600 yd spool of 8# for my spinning outfits and 12# for my casting stuff...got it at cabela's website. I'll post with my thoughts after I put it to use! Thanks for such a great forum.
  10. I knew you would say that!!! I've only been a member of this board for a short time but it hasn't taken me long to figure out you have quite an allegiance to Shimano reels...but as always - thanks for the feedback.
  11. Now that i've solved my spinning reel quandry by picking up a stradic this morning i have to turn my focus to a new baitcaster. I have a Fenwick HMX 7' MH Fast casting rod with no reel and I have narrowed it down to either the Shimano Citica or the Pflueger President. Thoughts? Which would you get?
  12. thanks for the help guys...I just picked up a stradic 2500FH. can't wait to try out my new setup!
  13. a friend of mine is letting me choose a baitcasting rod of his for a gift. my choice is between a st. croix premier 7' mh power, fast tip, or a fenwick hmx 7' mh power, fast tip. Which one should i get?
  14. Please help me decide....I am currently in the market for a new spinning reel and a new baitcast reel for general purpose fishing. Both will be going on 6'6" avid's medium power, fast tips. today at Dick's they are running a special on the Daiwa Capricorn XTC spinng and baitcasting reels for $79.99. Does anybody have these or fished with them or just have any opinion on them? Is that a good deal? They say original price for was $119.99 for the spinning and $139.99 for the baitcaster. Any help would be greatly appreciated.
  15. i have checked tackelewarehouse, reeds, bass pro shops, dicks and cabela's and have not seen even the symetre on sale...am i missing something?
  16. where did you find the stradic at such a great price?
  17. I just bought my first avid today and am super excited. Now I want to pair a reel up with it and I have narrowed it down to the shimano symetre or the pflueger president. Should I pay the extra money for the symetre or will I just be paying for the shimano name? What does everybody think?
  18. i had the rods scanned and you were right - $99!!!!! I have a new avid spinning rod! Thanks so much for the great tip. i love this forum
  19. hey thanks alot for that tip! i'll do it today and let you know if i have 2 new rods or not!!!! they don't open until 10 this morning so I can't go yet.
  20. i've been checking every day since this post was made and the 5 or 6 avids at the local dicks here are still $159...i'm waiting patiently so I can get my hands on one. Are they really that good? I have one premier baitcasting rod - is the avid that much better?
  21. What would i look for in a crankbait rod?
  22. Can you guys talk about technique specific rods? All of my rods are 6'6" and medium or medium heavy. I am currently trying many new techniques and have noticed that certain baits don't work very well on certain setups. For example - i threw a 1/2 oz spinnerbait on a medium action spinning rod and the reel was struggling on the retrieve. I don't know anything at all about this topic so as much info as you have would be appreciated. Please talk about rod length, action and tip. Thanks
