Line breaking on baitcaster

Featured Replies

I'm having trouble with the line breaking on my Shimano Cronarch using yo-zuri ultra soft 6 lb test.  The line will break back in the spool somewhere, not at the lure.  I will cast out and it's like someone just cut the line in mid flight.  Happend 3 different times this week end.

Has anyone ever experienced that?  Thanks in Advance.

A "professional overrun" will cause the fluorocarbon in the formula to "crack" which is a noticable kink in the line. This is a weak spot and must be replaced.

OK Thanks - Unfortunately I'm still relatively new with the baitcater and getting my share of "PO's".

Hey buddy!

Using a heavier line makes learning baitcasting much easier. I highly recommend Yo-Zuri Hybrid Ultra Soft #12 (.013" diameter, 19.5 lb test), but any other brand of #12 will help with the learning process.

If you are "still relatively new with the baitcaster" you might buy a small spool of Trilene XT in whatever # you like just to work out the bugs, so to speak.  The XT is not really susceptible to the kink breaks you have been experiencing.  But anything that light on a BC reel will be more problematic, as RW said.

If you don't like XT, try Sufix Elite (red package).
