I have been debating on which reel to put on my custom built Gloomis MB784 IMX. I am leaning towards the premier because it is light but I have heard mixed feelings on it. Money is not a big deal. What would you guys buy?

I have a topic that I will start once I have all the info and details taken care of but it involves me returning a Premier after it was serviced by Abu Garcia. In short in came back in worse condition than I sent it out in.

I have not fished the STX but others on this forum have nothing but great things to say about it.

I'd go with the STX.  IMO, it's noticably smoother.  Prettier, too.

Go with the STX. The Premier has had it's share of problems. I own two STX's and I have yet to have the first problem with either of them.

I own several of each. No problems out of any of them yet. Best reels I've ever fished with. And since money is no object in your case, buy one of each.

I just recieved mine on Friday. Had a chance to take it out this weekend and it preformed flawlessly. Amazing reel.

Can't speak on the STX but I do own a Premier. I have had no issues with it so far. Very smooth, good drag & very light. I have this matched up with a G. Loomis 843 crankbait rod. I have thrown mostly lipless cranks & topwater with it so far. I see quite a few posts on the STX with guys that really like it....some like it better than the Premier. I may have to check out the STX when I get the "new reel itch" again. ;D

I got the Premier first and had no problems with it.  I then saw all the posts here about how some guys were liking the STX more than the Premier.  So I got an STX and a STXHS.  The STX looks cooler, but there is no way I'd say it performs any better than the Premier.  

You can't loose with either one.   If you buy a Premier go the Ebay route I've seen new ones as low as $175.00.  For that money it's the best light reel you're going to get.

I had the same decission a few months back, and selected the STX. I saw little advantage of the Premier over the STX. I was skewed by some of the reviews I had read of the Premier, but let's face it, someone can get a lemon with most any of reels on the market.

Same here, I have been playing with the Premier....I'll keep my STX.

STX for sure.  I own 4 of them and they are just about as perfect as I could want.   Worth every penny and 6.4:1 seems ideal to me even when compared to my 7.1:1.  So I standardized on all of them so that I know the reel regardless of the situation.  Rick Clunn turned me on to that - using the same rods and reel models for feel and control purposes so that you are not thinking about them at all while fishing.  Works great for me.
