RW please help...again

Featured Replies

I know you have helped w/ this before...but I can not find it. What should the drag be set at for the ultra soft line at 6lb and 12lb??? thanks.

As a general rule, drags are set at 25-30% of the line's breaking strength as long as that is within the suggested guidelines of the rod.

Yo-Zuri Hybrid #6 = 11.9 lb test X .25 ~ 3 lbs

#12 = 19.5 lb test X .25 ~ 5 lbs, but I think you will find this to be more stress than you like on your rod. 4 lbs is about it for me, regardless of the line strength.

I like to use 1/3-1/4 of the lines rating, not advertised break strength.  In RW's example, you should be sure that your rod is rated for 20 lb line... since you are using a known 20 lb line, even though it's rated as #12.

I have fished with RW and he does not handle and fight fish how most people do, he's much more careful and in tune with his equipment...
