Has anyone ever used any of the red lines? Have you found them better then green lines? What brands, why?

Better in what way ?

Most red lines claim that the color is filtered out after 12 feet, so what about above 12 feet, seems like it would stand out more then blend in.

I think it is just marketing hype just like red hooks.  The water most people fish is less than 12 feet anyway.  And I think it starts becoming invisible at 12 feet, not IS totaly invisible at 12 feet.

i just started usin red line just for fun, and i have been fishin in less than 10 feet of water, and it I have caught a lot of 5+ bass with it. i don't prefer it over green or clear, but it doesn't seem to affect the bass to much and its been workin for me

ill never buy it. personally i think its to much of a risk when a green line wont have to filter out at all to blend in with the water i fish

o and also it was dirt cheap

depends alot on how clear your water is, for clear water the visibility of red could extend much farther than 12 ft, for stained water it could be just a few ft.

I've tried red Powerpro braid, it didn't have a noticeable effect on the amount of bass I was catching... I fished red and green side by side and if i was catching fish I was catching them on both.  

It's a confidence thing and/or a cosmetic thing...I like the way the red and yellow lines look on my reels, it's a change from clear or green.

it's been explained a whole bunch of times on here.do a search and you'll find it.research red in underwater photography and you'll find out why it works in line and does the opposite on hooks..clear lines can reflect light really bad and be more visible to a fish than colored lines..that's why some fluoro lines come in green.

I-F just had a long article on the red "craze" in the fishing world. It was either in march or Feb I'll see if I can find it for you. Pretty interesting stuff

Opinion.

If it 's quality made who cares if dissapears or not as long as it matches the color of the reel.  

I considered buying some red line today, but I decided not too.  The water in my lake is varies from clear to green stain.  My rationale for NOT buying the red line is that I have been using green line, and it has been working.  So my opinion on the red line is, if it ain't broke, don't fix it.  Chances are, if you aren't catching fish on green line, you aren't going to catch 'em on red either.  

The difference between red hooks and red line is that the line is translucent. Light passes through the line, it does not pass through hooks, it reflects back off of them.

I have never used red line mainly because I really haven't seen any red translucent (not braided) line from a quality brand (although to be fair, it's not something I normally look for). My thoughts are, if it's crappy line, I don't care what color it is, I'm not buying it. Now if I could find some Yo-Zuri in red, I MIGHT try that.

We've been using Cajun red lines with very good results.  They are very manageable on both baitcast and spinning reels, hold up pretty well and are inexpensive.  They're also easier for us to see which, at our age, is an important consideration.
