Fluorocarbons for topwater fishing?

Featured Replies

I fish alot of topwater and I just ordered the other day 2 rolls of Yo-zuri ultra soft for my reels. Today I picked up the lastes issue of the In-Fisherman and in this issue they take a look at different fluorocarbons. They say don't use fluorocarbons for topwater fishing, "it's a no-go - this is the only application where fluoro dosen't work". Because these type of lines sinks. What do you think? Does anyone here have any experience using fluoro lines for topwater fishing? Should I go out now and buy something else, like power pro.

Thanks

Yo-Zuri Hybrid Ultra Soft is a bonded (not coated) fluorocarbon/ nylon

copolymer. You will find it performs very well for all applications and

especially topwater...the line floats!

Copolymers, like Yo-Zuri Hybrid Ultrasoft are different from pure fluorocarbon lines.  Pure Fluorocarbon does sink and, if used with a topwater like a Zara Spook, the line will cause the nose of the lure to dig into the water.  This makes "walking the dog" very difficult.

I use braid for top water. Half of my top water fishing is on top of weeds and such, but even in open water, I prefer the zero stretch of braid.

Remember, light line will sink and disturb the natural flow of the bait.

It will also not allow the bait's nose to sit correctly.

A heavy line, be it braid or mono, is a good topwater line.

But if Roadwarrior says to use the Yozuri Hybrid Ultra Soft the you use the Yozuri Hybrid Ultra Soft line.

And it works, too!
