Line strength vs. diam

Featured Replies

which momo or mon/hybrid has the greatest breaking/knot strength in relationship to it's diameter?

Welcome aboard!

P-Line is about 40% stronger than indicated by its diameter, i.e., 10 lb line = 14 lb breaking strength. Yo-Zuri Hybrid is even stronger: #6 = 11.9 lb breaking strength, #12 = 19.5.

I just did a test on 8# yozuri. it broke at 9+ lbs. also it's diam. is the same as many 10# lines.

The Yo-Zuri lines are the same as Ande Premium until you get to #12 and up. Then Hybrid is actually thinner (.013" vs .014"). I chose Ande for comparisons because it holds claim to more certified world records than all other brands combined. Although lines vary, I think Ande can serve as a proxy for "the standard".

Regarding actual breaking strength:

Without challenging your specific test, I would state that my experience indicates strengths are as described on the Yo-Zuri website which have been certified by the IGFA:

thanks for the links. interesting to say the least. however, "the written word tends to stretch the truth whereas reality tends to shrink it.".....oliver wendell holmes

I think you missed the point. Yo-Zuri had the line tested, rated and certified by IGFA and then posted those results. Independent testing, not corporate claims or hype.
