Loomis GL3 verses St. Croix Avid Rods

I have a GL3 CR724.  This is a nice looking rod.  It's light and well balanced.  In fact, it's the best balanced "factory built" rod that I own.  Thats the good about this rod.  Nothing more good can be said about it.

The bad is....sensitivity.  Because it is as sensitive as a $40 rod the price for these GL3's is WAY off and that makes them a poor buy.

Bottomline on the GL3....if you don't mind paying a lot of money for a rod that looks good, balances well and is fairly light with sensitivity level of a Berkley Lightning Rod, then it's your baby.  Otherwise the Croix Avid is a WAY WAY better deal.

you know, as big a fan as i am of some loomis rods, would have to go with the avid here.

nothing wrong with the gl series but, imo, the avid is the better choice here.

I have a couple of GL3s and a couple of Avids.  If I were getting rid of anything it would be the GL3s.  The Avids are closer to the IMX series.

IMO do not overspend for a Loomis under you're gonna buy an IMX or GLX. The GL series are simply not worth it.

I own five St. Croix, three Avids and two Legend Elite.

I own two G. Loomis.

Unless you are buying an IMX or GLX, the St. Croix Avid is a better rod.  There are comparable or better rods from other manufactures for anything less than an IMX.
