Stren Super Braid

Recommended Posts

I used Stren Super Braid (30lb High Vis Yellow) on my spinning gear this weekend. I liked the way it casted - it laid on the water straight so it was easy to detect any movement. The line is extremely limp compared to most braids i have tried.

The only problem I had was the line looped way to easy and created knots. It happened several times throughout the weekend.

I switched to Power Pro and it no longer happened but the line did not cast as well or lay straight on the surface like the Stren.

I may try using 20lb and see if this makes any difference.

Any suggestions would be appreciated.....

I use the Stren Super Braid in 20# and 30# in both colors, No problems on spinning gear or baitcasting. What do you mean by "looped way too easy and created knots" ?

Wayne P.

After several cast I get a loop in the line on the reel - once I cast, the line pulls the loop off the reel and creates knotted mess.

Does the suffix lay flat on the surface like the stren. Power Pro has some coil to it when it is in the water.

I was very happy with PP until I tried sufix. PP will "break" in and become less rigid. The sufix casts  great, has no memory, and will rarely knot up.

However, any braid can get wind knots, especially with spinning gear. I have had very few with sufix....and no, it doesn't coil and will lay flat.

my first attempt at using braid on a spinning reel had these knotting loops showing up on the casts. Eventually it stopped. I think I may have had too much line on and cutting a bit off each trip eventually got me to the right amount. Try taking about 10 yards off, more if you really overfilled it.

I use Stren SB and have absolutely no problems with line twist. If you have line twist then you'd be doomed with mono. Like has been said close the bail by hand, don't put excess line on and make sure you are putting the line on properly. I think a smaller pound test is going to cause more problem than large under the same circumstances. Sso untill you solve your problem I don't think smaller diameter is going to help. Also a big tip I've seen is if you are using a boat is to cut off the lure & let out a bunch of line while trolling. Several members swear by it helping get rid of the twists.

Bass-Brat

I always close my bail by hand and pull on the line as well.

I am going to spool up tonight with 20lb and give it a try - I will only fill the spool up 3/4 of the way and see if that makes a difference. I may have overfilled the spool.....

What may be happpening is the line is so limp that sometimes it will wind around the spool tension knob if you don't keep the line somewhat tight when closing the bail. I have that on occasion if I don't check when using weightless presentations.
