Featured Replies

Well I was fishing with my friend and we were talkin about school and whatnot, and we were talkin quite deeply bout the tests we have and stuff. So I just went out to cast and when my arm was JUST coming forward I just realized I didnt have my thumb on the line and I had just engaged the release switch thingie, so all my line just goes flyin everywhere and I just told my friend Im packin up for the day hahaha. How stupid, but thats what you get for not paying attention I guess ;)

any dumb stuff ever happened like this to you?

Thats why it's nice to have an extra spool ready to go or at least take a new spool of line with you. You are not the first to do something like that and don't ask me how I know  :-[ ;) Mike

hah whats even better is when you think you have everything under control and you whack a bush right after you release the spool on the cast..... :-[

Sure just respooled went into the back yard to cast a few on the first cast hooked the plug on the bird bath and instant mess. I guess dumb people have it easy. ;) ;) :o :o ;) Its all good!!!!!!

Oh, man!  Sometimes I think I invented the birds nest.   Actually, I have perfected a new variation I call "The Mohawk" - I believe my personal best is about 2" tall off the center of the spool.

Not limited to baitcasters - after a long day of fishing wacky-rigged senkos on my spinning rigs, I developed what I call a "knitting progect" or sometimes a "full weave".   I swear as I am picking through these messes that it must defy all the laws of physics how the line can tie itself in that many places all at the same time!

Yep.  The guy that finally invents a "line-less" fishing system will be the next Bill Gates but, until then, happy re-spooling everybody!

On the boat or in tournaments I always take two or three extra baitcasters and one or two extra spinning reels so I can "change out" when I get the Backlash of the Year.

I used to fool around with the spinning reel spools but now I take the spinning reels ready to go within two minutes of a changeout.

Hey, what you encountered happens to us all. It is part of the learning curve.

Know what's funny? I'm about to get rid of every single baitcaster i own except my shimano scorpion...it's the only baitcaster i can cast without backlashing on every 10 casts.

It seems like i forgot how to work a baitcaster now.

I'm a bit disappointed with myself right now.

Since RW introduced me to yo zuri soft i'm in love with it on my spinning reel set up.I'm getting pretty darn close to putting 12# yo zuri on my baitcaster, because trilene flourocarbon is giving me nothing but PROBLEMS!

I know that feeling!I shut the brakes off on the free spool 2 4 6 setting and took the side plate off.Put it back on and casted without turning em back on.OOPSS!!!! ;)

;DThat is exactly why I only use spinning reels. I think they work fine for all lures if you have the right action rod and spinning reel. ;)

Been there, done that.

My worst ever was on a very long cast into grass. The bass struck my Senko as soon as it hit the water. I used my very best Bill Dance hook-set to stick that pig at distance, but I hadn't clicked over yet...

I swear, my line looked just like fresh cotton candy!

Here is one for you...

On my backcast my hula popper snagged my brother's hat and I never freaking had my thumb on the spool since I had my old Abu Green round reel perfectly tuned.  Anyway, the backlash was so bad it took me what seemed like forever to cut and I ended up respooling.  It was a nightmare, especially since at the time I was only about 12yo and only had one rod to fish with.   What added to the agony was that my brother was slaying them the whole time I was getting ready.
